Who do you believe? I think maybe your best all along would have been to see a doctor because this is "obviously" not the site for medical advice.

Well, in defense of the person who recommended apple cider.. There are acids and there are acids. It is quite possible some are good and some are bad... I am not a doctor (Though I have contributed to medical text books) I don't even play one on TV (I will add it had nothing to do with gout.. I do some technical writing and I wrote an article that,, Well, Wound up in a medical text on a different condition.. The text was authored, for the most part, by a genuine doctor, specialist in the field. He liked my chapter though.)

However I fully agree with you that "See a doctor" is the best advice, This forum is not the place to get medical advice and that is why I suggested seeing a doctor in the portion of my post you quoted.

Another thing to think about is seeing multiple doctors. I am not sure even what specialty would deal with Gout, thus see a GP or internist first and ask them.

In my own life I have an internist.. He's good for most things but for some stuff I see a specialist.. And it usually takes me about 10 seconds or less to figure out why I see the specialists (They clearly know much more about THEIR SPECIALTY than my internist

However one does not go to a portraitist for a tooth ache

Like mentioned before, Allopurinol on a daily basis keeps mine under control. But if I do have a flair up, one or two Indomethacin tablets will knock it out in 12 hours.
Also, another food irritant is shrimp....my downfall... Of course the above medications can only be prescribed by a physician.

Here is another one about Apple Cider Vinegar, again, from personal experience. Next time you think you need a "Tums" for an upset stomach, try a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar! That should make a few eyes roll....

If you are having an acute bout with gout, the best remedy is to start taking Cholcine and drinking lots of water. Call your Dr. and ask him for a prescription. Stop eating all foods that are high in purines like fresh fruits, celery, oatmeal, whole wheat breads.
Eggs and oils are ok. After your attack has subsided ask your Dr. for a low daily dose of Allopurinol to keep the gout under control.

Has your friend ever thought of seeing a doctor? That just might be an idea.

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

I was over to my friends house today and he will be going to the Doctor Thursday.
I took two cans of Cherries with me. He said he would eat them for lunch. We both have been reading about Gout on the internet, that is where I heard about Cherries. Hope they help him. He is in lots of pain, sure hope the Doc can help him. Some one on the internet said you could get Cherry pills at a health food store.
Thanks for all your information. I have learned a lot about Gout in the last few days. From what I read you can stop from getting Gout by what you eat.
Thank you All

For people who want to control there gout, go to your local health food store and buy R.W. Knudsen's Black Cherry juice concentrate, or another brand, but it has to be pure cherry juice, not cherry juice from concentrate. Knudsen's comes in an 8 oz bottle. Take 2 tablespoons a day, everyday. In most people this will lower the uric acid levels, and help flush purines from the system. It's a very good anti oxidant, so has other benefits also. Now this is to control gout, not a cure if you already have an outbreak. If you have a bout of gout, start the cherry juice, and go see a doctor asap, and get the meds to help you get over it. There is a good chance once your over the gout attack, and you stay on the cherry juice, that you may never have another attack. Yes I'm speaking from experience. My high uric acid levels are more from heredity, than diet. Only people who have had gout can really appreciate it.
For more information Google "gout and cherry juice".

Pure unsweetened cherry juice. Take 2 shots a day. Works like a charm!

For an acute gout attack, I take Colchicine. When you get diarrhea, you know the medicine is in your system and you quit taking it. It does work on the pain, however.
I take Allopurinol on a daily basis. I have not had an acute attack in well over a year or two.

God Bless!
