HI: Newbie's here. Everything that could go wrong for our maiden voyage did. Hoping to salvage one overnight of using the RV. Since going north did not work out, we are thinking about going to the Lancaster area of PA. (we have our RV in PA) Not interested in the tourist traps.

Anyone have any suggestions for two amateurs looking to do an overnight run in what will probably be a winterized rig?

Just looking to enjoy the open road.

Thanks.

We stayed at Roamer's Retreat in Kinzer, about 10 miles east of Lancaster.
Enjoyed it... especially the fields which could be seen from the campground.
Saw some beautiful scenery on the back roads, if you have time for that. Nice grocery store about 2-3 miles east of campground. Hope to make it back to that area some day. Since everything went wrong on maiden voyage, can only go in one direction now... wishing you many happy days of camping!

We will be at Colonial Woods, Upper Black Eddy, Pa for our last outing with our new (to us) Class C for the weekend of Nov 1st (Mystery discount weekend). It's pretty close to NJ, so we won't use too much gas getting there and back.

CAUTION...watch out for the narrow one-lane bridges, especially if you are pulling a toad!!

If Beacon Hill in Intercourse is still open give them a try. They are with in walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in town. They over look an Amish farm and used to have people walking thru the campground selling baked goods. Otherwise check out Old Mill Stream Campground off route 30 in Lancaster.

Thank you all. We have a 24ft. Winnebago, View (rv); still probably need to be wary of bridges. It is narrow but tall and long. DH has been doing great driving it; I haven't tried yet, but I will. I think I can manage on the open road-- not too sure about tight spaces.

I will check out all the suggestions. Apparently, this is a busy weekend for RVers.

I stayed at the Beacon Hill 2 weeks ago. It's a good choice for a winterized Class C because the loop that's suitable for smaller vehicles like yours has the bathhouse conveniently in the center. Sites #1-9 have nice sunset views, especially if the trees have dropped their foliage. It promotes itself as quiet, but I had obnoxious noisy neighbors! No kids under 16, but pets are OK. Downtown Intercourse has parking for RVs in the lot for the little Kitchen Kettle mall.

Thank you so much. Apparently, Columbus Day weekend is big! So far, no room 'at the Inn.' Sheila

If you like wooded sites with access to everything, try the "Lake in Wood RV Resort", north of Lancaster and the turnpike. It is a VERY nice place with concrete pads, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, a lake, and an indoor swimming pool and spa that is only open on weekends. We stayed a week near the Fellowship circle and had a nice view of the ballfield/play area where we could walk our dog. Beautiful farms and mountain scenery going in/out of the place. It is gated also.
