It sounds like pain response to me, but I wouldn't rule out behavior or neuro (seizure like episode). Since Pepto worked, I'd lean towards some sort of GI pain. I also see the stretchng and panting with GI pain.

Pepto worked with her episodes a few years ago, but it hasn't helped with these.

If it is a reaction to her pain meds, she's done with them now. We'll see if she gets better. Now that I think about it, I don't think she got any pain meds with her second surgery. And she didn't have any episodes then either.

By "GI" pain, do you mean stomach problems? Think the pain meds could be causing those problems?

Thanks all! I'll keep you posted. She's such a sweet and loving dog. It's awful to see her like this.

Poor poor Diz.....don't you wish she could just tell you what was wrong. After reading what the others wrote I tend to agree that it could be a GI (stomach) problem...maybe causing her stomach problems. Pain/nausea would be enough to make anyone (dog) feel anxious.

Since my life is dominated by my little Aussie with the liver shunt I think every problem now is a liver problem but all of these symptoms you've described are ones that Lizzi has had after medications. If the liver is not working correctly the dogs have trouble, seisures and lots of pain when meds can't be metabolized correctly. White rice and plain yogurt is all she can eat when she's very ill. I wish you the best with helping your dog.

Have you gone to a specialist? Sometimes you just have to tell your vet that you want to be referred to a specialist. Yes, it is more expensive but if it means you get to the bottom of what the cause is, that is the most important thing. With our Kissie if we had not recommended our seeing a specialist she would not be alive today. Good luck and let us know what happens.

See now, this is the point at which I'd call my dog psychic (yes, really) and have her ask for the dog's perspective, if this is pain, or what.

But I realize that is just TOO California for y'all...

Diz had another spell last night but it didn't last quite as long, wasn't quite as bad, and the sedatives worked quicker this time. Seems possible it could still be her pain meds, as she just had the last one on Sunday.

She goes back to our regular vet on Monday to have her mouth rechecked and I'll talk to her about this then. And I'll see how things go between now and then.

Once again, thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted.

GO IMMEDIATELY TO A GOOD VET THAT HAS XRAY CAPABILITIES. Our 8 year old career changed guide dog was fine one day and was acting exactly the same way after a walk. Turned out that he had a tumor on his heart and the paramesium? sac around the heard was filled with fluid and causing problems. Thousand dollars later and the sac was drained, but he was still acting funny. This was on Tuesday it started, By Thursday morning we knew he was dying and the only humane thing we could do was put him down.

I'd be afraid the vets are missing something major here, it doesn't sound like simple anxiety. Honestly, I'd be afraid the cancer might've metastasized somewhere else, causing those symptoms. Poor Diz, I hope you get some answers for her soon.

We've been worrying about that too.
