i would think it would wake someone up trying to break into a dead bolted door with out hearing them.he might have left his door unlocked.

I never heard of something like this happening to a camper at Wal Mart. I guess this campground doesn't have a 24 hour security patrol.

Just remember, while sleeping, or approaching your room at a Hyatt, Hilton, or Embassy Suites the same thing can happen. Could be a multi-million dollar dope deal turn sour in the room beside you. Go and enjoy life, have fun!

I agree with Skip and others. It's not the campground! This happens everywhere! Obviously, if the campground looks questionable, leave! There are others. I too leave my stuff out sometimes, and no issues! (No, I won't tell you where!) I have met some great people and now have great friends. However, some have been marginal! Erring on the side of caution is the key. Using your eyes ears and nose will tell you alot about a place, and people. Just be safe about it! Your instincts are a tool you use daily. Don't leave your tools at home when you go!

We live in a very nice suburban neighborhood. Virtually no crime but last spring someone had their car "stolen" from the street in front of their house. How? They left the keys in it and the doors unlocked. The car was recovered 1/4 mile away. Clearly some kids just saw an opportunity and took a joy ride. The owners of the car were absolutely shocked . I am very sorry to hear the man was shot but I would bet he didn't lock the door to his rv. The best way to avoid becoming a victim is to not act like a victim. Locks may only keep honest people honest but they also buy you time to react when you hear someone trying to get in.

Well let's see...how many total camping nights were there in the US this year--a billion? I have no idea but it had to be a lot and one story reached the papers about a killing? Sounds like you are a lot safer in a campground than your home, or on the streets or in your car.
This story rates about a "0" for me...
