We just got back from 10 days stay at Tres Rios. It was really nice and we would recommend it. The three rivers (Squaw, Paluxy, and Brazos) all come together there. They have lots of sites, plus cabins, and a snack bar.
The Glen Rose area offered some unique attractions, and we took them all in! One night we went to see The Promise, the life of Christ, in a beautiful outdoor arena--it was just wonderful. Then we went to the Dinosaur Valley State Park and saw dinosaur tracks in the riverbed. We drove down to Hico TX (a great little western town with a Billy the Kid Museum) and Dublin TX (where they bottle original DR. Peppers). But my husband's favorite thing was the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center--one of those safari things you drive through--where we saw all kinds of deer, antelope, zebras, rhinos, cheetahs, ostriches, etc. We bought a bag of food and it was so much fun feeding them. Halfway through there is a nice little cafe overlooking the park and a well-stocked gift shop.
Where in Tx is this park? Can you list the rate you paid? Am looking for winer stay and this does sound interesting.
Thanks in advance for you response.
I guess it is a matter of taste. If you will look at the pictures on the website, you'll notice that the CG is pretty much an open field. We like the Glen Rose area but prefer to camp at Dinosaur Valley SP because it is fairly heavily wooded and there is a lot more separation between the campsites. I'd admit that it can be tough to get into there because it is one of the most popular parks in the SP system in Texas. It doesn't offer full hookups. Dinoasur Valley also doesn't have any organized activities and social life. The variety of hiking trails and bike trails make it a very attractive alternative - for those who are into such things. It is a very short drive from DVSP to Fossil Rim and the other attractions listed by the OP
