I currently have a 94 Pace Arrow, 37 footer, 460 with 3 speed auto, no slides. I am seriously looking to upgrade to a 1999-2002 diesel. I don't like the driveability on the older one. Do most of the units in the year range posted have air assisted suspensions? Do the Class A gas's have air assisted suspension? I am also considering a HR Augusta Class C.
Your thoughts on this are appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Most if not all gas coaches are sprung not air - they ride on a Ford F-53 or a Chevy P-3x or Workhorse W-2x chassis.

There are so many choices that an owner can make and your needs will be different than mine - IE I had to have bunks, people without kids sure likely wouldn't. Where do you plan to stay? I"m sure with an A already you've got a pretty good idea of your wants and needs but we don't - if you expand on them I'm sure people can suggest coaches in that age range that may fit your needs.

Alex, to answer your question, in the year model diesel coaches you mention, yes they have air suspension. The two most common chassis used on many coaches are Freightliner and Spartan.

Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Beaver & Safari coaches use their own Roadmaster chassis which also uses air suspension.

Not all diesels have air suspension. Ours does not. There were several other manufacturers (Damon, Bounder) that used the same XCS chassis without air suspension.

I definitely would drive a perspective unit. We've done a lot of work on ours (shocks, anti-sway bars) to bring it up to an acceptable handling level. It was difficult to handle when we first got it.

What year did velvet-ride come out?, thats a torsion suspension,, magnum chassis?

Oh, OK, I stand corrected, guess I've just never run across one except for very old models without air suspension.

Alex, you mentioned air suspension in your original post but one other thing to keep in mind is that there a also some manufacturers that used air-over-hydraulic brakes as well. If you are looking I would highly recommend that you take this into consideration. Air brakes are much more favorable than the air/hydraulic. Mike.

If you are considering a 99 gas class A, be very careful as to the exact chassis it is on. Ford's 99 chassis that I had is the new and improved model with 19.5 inch tires, but they put 99 motorhomes on earlier chassis with the 16 inch tires.
Also the Chevy P-30/32 et.al. chassis sort of sucked so be sure that even if it is a workhorse, that it is not just a rebadged P-30/32.

I like the monaco's and the HR's, just personal preferance for a middle of the road diesel and we really liked the floorplan
