Read somewhere that Pinery won't be open this winter for camping. Is this true? Is it a permanent change in policy, or just a one-timer? Or is it a "false rumor"?

Should have mentioned that Pinery is near Grand Bend, Ontario on Lake Huron.

Why not just check the Ontario Parks web site?

It's not on their website, or at least I couldn't find it. Ontario Parks don't update their website very often as we've discovered.

Yes, the Pinery will be closed this winter due to rebuilding 4 new comfort stations.
It will be closed as of Nov. 9th, 2008.

Thanks to Frank and Lucy, I heard that Pinery is closed for the winter. A couple of years ago, I dropped in for a campsite in November and found that they were closed at that time for an inventory of some sort.

I now make it a practice to E-mail them through the website before I head over in the fall/winter, they are prompt at answering once the E-mail gets passed to the park.

By the way, the yurts are available for the winter.

Also happened to us.
We found out it was the annual deer cull, thining the herd.
Something they don't advertise.

Oh yes....long overdue. Tear those old bathrooms down and build us some new modern facilities!
