Several Hollywood dogs have been rescue dogs from shelters - which is GREAT.

Benji was one. Lassie was another. Lucky the mutt starred in Dr. Dolittle. The Mastiff in Harry Potter/sorcerors stone, Max in how the grinch stole Christmas, The lab in The Mexican, Nipper the RCA dog and Eddie from Frasier are all rescue shelter dogs. Some 80% of all hollywood dogs come from shelters.

Sea World has made an entire show around dogs, cats, ducks and other interesting creatures - all from local area shelters that they adopted and trained. Everytime we go and see the show we are amazed at what they've done with the beautiful animals.

I think the point of the tie-in with the shelters is to point people toward adoptions rather than feeding the puppy mill industry. I suppose that in the end that is better even if some new homes are not permanent... better to have some go out and come back than to have thousands more put into the system due to impulse buys. On the other hand, I hope the shelters do a good job educating those who come in looking for a chi. They're cute, but they aren't for everyone.
