You're looking at this in the wrong way. What you need to do is decide which state is the best for you to declare your domicile in - not just which state will save a few dollars on registration or sales(excise) tax, or rv insurance, or health insurance, or estate planning, or ....

Usually people start looking at not having to pay state income tax, then go to the next thing on their list of things to check. An usually registration costs are far down on the list.

Besides - many/most States charge different registartion amounts depending on length/book value/ retail price etc. of the RV so what do you realley want to know?

You did not say if you are a full time resident of Colorado or are you going to be a full time RVer and will be traveling to various places.

Within the last year Colorado had a major crackdown on Colorado residents registering their motorhomes in Montana. Big fines were paid. And some other states are doing the same.

I may be wrong, but for a first post , in the fulltiming section, I question the validity of this question.

yep, many more important variables, but IIRC Del has no big tax on them if you want to register it and "garage it" there.

Ditto-- there are sites that will compare the total tax burden for each state. The last one I checked was for folks planning retirement and looking to locate to where the overall taxes were minimized. It took into consideration sales, income, property, etc. In the grand scheme, the registration fees are a small amount to spend a lot of effort attempting to avoid. Just my opinion.

safe travels,

I'd like a link to such a site myself.
and also the county makes a big difference also. Very true in VA if you have an expensive motor vehicle, motorhome for example. I always thought it would be sort of neat to own a place on the Potomac river and have your boat hanging from the boat lift over the river which would mean it is located in MD and have it registered in MD.

Here is one link, but does not list by County, as stated before each County has a rate set for PP tx, In NC it is around .84 of value, not cheep, registration would have to be checked at DMV which is not bad in NC.
