I do the same thing, a lot faster than the tank drain.

As my post states, all of the drains are open, I just want to expedite the process by using the pump. As others have said on this thread, it does about 100 times faster than gravity. I always shut it off as soon as the water starts to trickle out so I won't burn it out. Also, as far as I know my holding tank only has a 1/2" drain tube, same size as the 4 low point drains, no "plug" that I have seen.
Thanks for all the info everyone, doesn't seem there is a problem after all as long as you shut the pump off as soon as it's done.

I have four low point drains: hot/cold and front/rear
The drains are about 1/4 inch, if they are even that big. Draining with gravity is not a lot more than a trickle for me.
If I don't use the pump, and the 40 tank is full and the 6 gallon water heater is full then it takes about 45 minutes to drain via gravity.
Patience is not one of my virtues.

I am sort of curious what is the hurry in draining the tank? I mean weather doesn't usually change from 50 to 25 in 30 minutes, at least not without some warning.
