Just bought my first motorhome, it's a 1996 Europa. Found the frig has a problem. Every couple of days (not everyday)from 2pm to 4pm frig gets up to around 60 degrees and then cools down to where it should be. This happens on gas or elec. Had everything checked and cleaned, etc. Repair person says frig installed incorrectly. Doesn't have enough ventilation at roof vent. There is good insulation around frig. About 2' square space at bottom of frig, an inch in back and maybe an inch at top where vent is. Anyone had this problem or any other reasons for the frig to be doing this? They want me to have another vent put in on outside near roof or pull frig out 3" and put picture frame around it, said it works good like that. Also a solar fan was put in, but did not have much effect. The average temp in frig is 35 to 38 and the freezer at 0 to 4 degrees. It is a Dometic 2 door model 3862, not under recall as is 1996.

Never heard of a problem like this

Suggest getting a couple of computer fans, and a temp-senestive switch (say 80 to 90 degrees) and putting them in the outer compartment blowing UP, or at the top of the "stack" still blowing up.. This will improve ventilation. Also use power.

What is the operating range of a fridge? What is the optimum temp? How about the freezer?

I should have included the average temp which is 35 to 38 in frig and freezer around 0 to 4 degrees. Thanks, and its a Dometic model 3862, not under recall as is 1996 model.

personally, I would do some research to see if that is a defrost cycle or something that is sposed to be going on. If you really don't know the problem why start adding on things like fans?

Isn't it cool how "technicians" always have the answer.

As this happens during what is the hottest part of the day have you noticed if the sun was on the refrigerator side when the temp rises?

If you have a manual look for the installation specs, if not check the Dometic site for a .pdf for your model. Rear clearance is important as it creates the draft need for heat exchange. Along with the proper clearance the flue needs to be clear of loose insulation, spider webs, wiring, it doesn't take much to disrupt convective air flow. And FWIW moving the frig forward may not help either, it is easy to get too much space and the air won't flow.
