We have a 17 ft Escape and love it! Light and easy to tow. Fits anywhere and is a warm dry place in bad weather. We bought our trailer to travel and sightsee and seldom spend more that a couple of days in one spot. We are both still working so our time on the road is limited to 3 weeks at a time for big vacations and also almost every weekend from March to November.
I also prefer camping amongst little trailers or tents. Big trailers and 5th wheels block the view and make the campsite seem cramped.

One specific example of my small trailer joy...Last month, we visited Land between the Lakes, the park that runs south from Kentucky into Tennessee. Huge, tons of stuff to do... a heritage park, a marina, boat rentals, hiking and biking trails, old iron furnace, a bison and elk preserve... My husband has wanted to camp here for years.
Because of the remnants of a hurricane moving north, all the campgrounds were closed except the Piney Park in the south end (actually in Tennessee). The really nice hosts at the gate gave us a spot in the tent section when we asked if any lakefront spots were left. We so enjoyed ourselves, even with the skunk visiting our site twice. Tranquil spot, lovely sunset view of the lake, and the nicest family tenting next to us... In fact, our only neighbors in all of Sweetgum loop. (The RV section was packed because of a weekend festival and the closures.) Who needs hookups when you have the lake just a few steps away?... and close to $10 less, too. This is my joy of small trailering... And we've experienced it dozens of times over this summer. we don't need a lot, and often the leftover spaces offer the very best views, and the very best neighbors. Hope you all have found the "joy", too. edited to include a photo of the view from our great campsite at Piney.

Learjet,
I think in the world of bulgemobiles, you're still hanging with us.... Hope you dont' mind In the world of tiny trailers and teardrops, you're a luxury car and we're a midsize... at all of 17 feet. It's all about what makes you happy...

We just downsized from a 32 ft fiver to an 18 ft Eco - LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Yes, it was a bit cramped with our 12 year old granddaughter this summer the day is snowed all day in Red River - but the joys of "small" far outweigh the minuses. I love whipping into any gas station to fill up or getting into any camping spot and the ease of pulling the little TT down the road is great! I liked the fiver but LOVE the Eco!

I guess I need to explain what I meant by saving on gas mileage. By going to a smaller TT, we were able to get a TV that got better gas mileage. A larger TT would have meant a bigger TV that got less gas mileage. Just like PUP's, Aliners, Chalets, Hi-Lows, Trailmanors, etc would be better on gas mileage for the same reasons. Your can get a TV that gets better gas mileage, plus the added benefit of it riding low. Which I'm sure you already knew. So, not only is it a joy to own a small TT for all the reasons mentioned here, it is also better for gas mileage.

We "simplified" by going from a 23 foot class C to an 18 foot T@da by Dutchman. Although I still need to perfect by backing up skills, we have really enjoyed the camping season. Because we can tow with our Volvo, we get MUCH better gas mileage than our class C got, as a result, we have been able to go camping more often. We are sad to see the camping season in our area coming to a close, but looking forward to next season.

I also love small trailers. I have been looking for a long time for one. It is very hard to find a good used one. Well, one of these days.

We have had large trailers and truck campers over the years and this time around we went purposedly smaller, ECO 18'9". It is the greatest little trailer so far. More than enough room for the two of us, easy to tow and park, but not lacking in creature comforts. We bought it in mid season and will be out more in '09. As a bonus, the fuel mileage is more than respectfull as compared to most others and we can now travel further within our budget. Win, win situation

After 20 years of trading up to bigger and bigger trailers with multiple slides, in '06 we bought a new 18' Rainier for $11,000, with no slides, no scissor jacks, no electric tongue jack, no spare, no air, etc. (did add the later two items tho) It's by far the best trailer we've ever had (quality wise and floor plan) and we love it. First TT I've felt like hanging onto for a while. We tow it with a Roadtrek Class B motorhome and the combination is solid and economical (12 mpg).
