Anyone know what fault code 45 means (controller unable to sense quadrature frequency)

most likely the Q1 and Q2 winding is open/shorted or the wires to the controller from Q1/Q2 is bad
coupling or belt broke on a HGJAE model genset

It,s a Microquiet 4000. I had it in storage for a couple months and it ran fine. It started up and worked until I ran the a/c then it shut down and keeps giving me the 45 code. It starts up and runs for a few seconds before shutting down. Thanks, Brett

Microquiet 400 is not an Onan model.
Post the whole model/spec/serial number and some of the symptoms you are having along with your fault code.

Sorry it's an onan 4000 or 4ky serial# 4kyfa26100k. I had the trailer in storage for the summer the generator worked fine the last time I used it. Last weekend I take the trailer out to the desert and start the generator and it ran fine for maybe 5 minutes I turn on the a/c and it ran for another minute until shutting itself off. I go to start it back up and it starts but shuts itself off after maybe 10 seconds. I try starting it a couple times and it starts up then shuts itself down after a few seconds. I check the fault code and it's code 45-speed sense fault (controller unable to sense quadrature frequency). Thanks, Brett

I'll look into it on Tuesday and ask our resident pro -- but, sounds like the control module's sensor is failing to meter the frequency of the secondary windings (called the quadrature). This is used to "step" up the voltage, from it's initial 12v off the bat, while holding the start switch, and initial operation. If it is very new and not used a lot, you may have picked up a lot of dust (desert?) -- especially if it is mounted in an area which is could do such a thing.

It's a 2002 with around 500 hrs in a Toy hauler 5th wheel so the dust could be the problem. Thanks and hope for good news on Tuesday. I store it in Mojave, Ca and I did find a Tech in the area but would rather fix it myself.
