I posted this on the Rally Thread since I frequent it often but wanted to just give everyone a heads up. Everything is gettig bad and people are getting really brazen. This just happened to me today and I am very attentive of my surroundings. Kathie
EVERYONE please read this, even more so the women. This is a HEADS UP to all.

I was having a Great day getting errands done etc. My last stop was at a Longs Drug store at approx. 12:00 noon. Went in and got my stuff I had on a rain check. Note: I drive the Dually and always park atad out of the way take up 2 parking spaces and today parked in the shade since I had just left the grocery store with cold food in the car. Walked out of Longs and did notice a silver car parked next to me which was odd but I could only see the back of it since there were some other cars parked closer. Thought to self..odd but it is the only shaded spot so thought nothing of it. I Walked the long way to the truck and as I approched the silver car that was backed into my driver door pulled up and shoved my cart at me and grabbed my purse. I rammed the passenger that took my purse with my cart but needless to say they made a safe escape. The purse was nothing but it had my Truck, House etc etc. keys in it, not to mention my debit card a a few credit cards I don't use so didn't even know the numbers on them. Oh and my check book, driver license etc etc. What a pain in the ass cancelleing everything.

We had all the locks on the house changed when I got home, had to have new remotes from the dealership for the truck since they now have the remote and the keys. Luckily when I called to cancell all the cards they had not attemepted to use them.

The scary part is this was NOT RANDOM...they watched me pull into the parking lot and staked me out and parked right next to me. There was NO way I was gonna leave that lot with my purse whether it was in my cart or on my shoulder. I had NO way to escape. I'm just glad I was not hurt with the exception of a few cuts and bruises from the cart.

Please everyone beware that people are getting desperate and will stop at nothing. I don't know how I could have avoided this but in the future if something doesn't seem right I will take heed.

OK now the best part is the cops come and the only thing I have in my cart is 2 cases (12 bottles in bags) of Canadian Mist...You can imagine the dent I made in theifs car with that.
Please everyone...stay safe. kathie

Too bad you live in a state that won't allow you to protect yourself! Try that here (WA) and likely as not they'd be staring down the barrel of a gun! About 10% of the adult population is licensed to carry so the thieves don't know who is and who isn't!
Glad you're OK though but too bad about all the trouble and cost.

Would you care to mention which Longs you were at? My wife shops at the one at West Lane and March. I am glad you are OK, what a bummer. Thanks in advance.

"Please everyone beware that people are getting desperate and will stop at nothing."

No change there, Kathi. Garden variety thieves to meth heads are everywhere.

How do you know they followed you, staked you out?

Othertonga it was the Longs at West Lane and March.... Sluggo.I don't believe they followed me but they staked out the parking lot and watched were I Parked..out of the way with a few site between me and any one that wanted to park there, like an employee. They Backed into the site to block me from my door and with a 24 ft dually I could not see them until they pulled up and blocked me. It really does not matter how it happened...It did and I'm NOT someone that walks in the clouds.

Kathie,

Thanks for posting your experience. I don't se how you could have done anything to have been any safer or more aware. I know that sometimes I am distracted and hearing about what happened to you will help me to stay more aware of my surroundings.

Recently I read a hint that I think is a good one. It was suggested that you use the camera on your phone to take a photo of your car's license plate. I don't know about anyone else but I don't have mine memorized and in the case of an auto theft I would have to go to my files at home to find it.

Before we left on our last trip I made copies , front and back, of all the stuff John and I carry in our wallets. I left a copy in a file at home and hid another copy away in the camper in case one of us were to loose or have one of our wallets stolen while we were on the road.

No doubt others will have more safety hints.

I want to thank you again for sharing your story.

Kathi, if you're intent on preventing a recurrence, it does matter how it happened. The most important thing you can do is maintain situational awareness. When you first saw that occupied car backed in, blocking your access to your truck, in an out-of-the-way spot, it was time to do a u-turn and go back into the store and either call the law, or wait them out. I would have made the call, told the calltaker that it appeared some no-goods had staked out my vehicle, and asked for assistance. Cops love this kind of call - not as much fun as a bank robbery at shift change, but being able to upset a lowlife's day is rewarding.

Believe me, these people, though often totally screwed up, are commonly expert at selecting victims.

The Monster Mash Rally is AT a very upscale resort that gives us a great discount on the price and gives us a clubhouse with a block of sites.
We are all RV.net or Trailer life or however you can sign in.
Ahh we have 2 rallys that I help with each year here in CA...One is the Monster Mash...It is no different than any other RVNet Rally.. It is just a bunch of us folks that met ont the RV Forum at our 1st rally was in Plymouth. We have grown into a large group of friends that like to have fun etc. We won't mention how much we like to chat. We Met most of our current camping friends at the 1st rally back in 2003 that I hosted with Camping Shadow at Plymouth Ca.
