Getting ready for first winter with new (to us) coach and also first DP coach. Will winterize the plumbing side (live in Maryland) but not sure about the fuel side. Plan to top off prior to storage but will take a monthly road trip to exercise the generator and other systems. Do I need to add a fuel additive or if so what's the recommended type/brand? Thanks.

Absolutely.... There are several on the market don't know one is better than another... I use Howes..

Both Stanadyne and FTTP are also worth considering...

Go to any local store that sells stabil fuel stabilizer put it in when you top the tanks(put in before adding fuel as it will mix a little better). Its not expensive at all.

Is it "needed"..? Dont know. Bit if your winter dictates you DO need it..and you didnt already put it in...your in a heck of a mess. Better to put it in and "waste it"..than leave it out and actually be in need.

I also use Howe's Libricator and it takes ( cant remember exactly) something like 8 ounces to do my tankfull. ( I do remember than 1/2 gallon will do 710 gallons of fuel!!)

IMHO unless you're going to start the rig/gen when it's cold enough outside to havethe diesel gel I would just keep it topped off.

There are two issues, even with full fuel:

1. Gelling. Filling now with summer grade, you need to add anti-gel (to bring the summer grade up to winter grade.

2. Algae. Many add an algaecide Avaliable at any marine store to prevent algae/bacteria growth in fuel stored longer than 3 months.

I have an 05 duramax which I drove for 2 winters here in Michigan without adding anything to the fuel. I park it outside year round. I had the dealership tell me that they had lots of them get towed in because of gelling. So now I add any stabilizer only during the winter which I get at Walmart. Now My gasser MH goes into storage every fall and comes out every spring, I haven't access to run it during storage, but I top the tank and pull it out in the spring. Never had a problem with this method.

I use Power Service in tank every fall. Need engine to start when we leave for warmer weather in January. Pickup it up at Wal-Mart.
