Hi all, Had our last camping trip for the season this past weekend and when I went to lower the antenna it started to bind up when it was about 3/4 of the way down. Had to get up on the roof and push it back up and then had to slowly have the DW lower it with the crank as I helped it down. Has any one had this type of problem before. The antenna is 8 years old. Is there a way to get inside where the gears are at and grease it or at least see if any of the gears are stripped. If the gears are stripped does any know if they are replaceable. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

All you need to do is get back up on the roof and spray silicone down and around where the large gears are. Wingard recommends that be done every once and a while to keep everything working smoothly. I had the same problem as you and the silicone fixed it. I usually spray mine twice a year now when I am up there cleaning the roof. I doubt that you hurt the antenna from "helping" it down.

Are you sure you had rotated the antenna back to the correct position for lowering. By that I mean where the arrows line up on base under the crank handle.

Yes the arrows were lined up correctly. I will get back up on the roof this weekend and try the silicone spray. Hopefully that will do the trick and be an easy fix. Thanks for the response.

Also look for a small rubber plug while you are up there. Remove and spray silicone in the hole. Helps keep the O-ring from cracking and developing a leak. There should not be any internal gears. Only the gears on top.

Ok I sprayed the outside gears and it worked great. Now I unscrewed the black plug and sprayed some silicone down into it and went inside to rotate the antenna and low and behold the worm gear came right out of the top of the housing that I took the black plug off of. I tried to adjust it back and I'm not having any luck. The handle crank and spring are real loose. Any suggestions on how toadjust this back to the correct position. I also noticed a small crack on the top of the worm gear, should I replace this first and if so how much trouble is it going to be.

Again thanks in advance for any help.

That plug lubricates the main surfaces and not that O-ring on the shaft. You need to lower the antenna and spray silicone on the main gears and on the shaft going thru the roof of the TT. The proper way is to remove the shaft, but I've never found that to be necessary and if the O-ring starts leaking it won't destroy the roof, just make a mess inside the trailer.

The plug you are talking about is shown in the pic below near the outside of the rotating part of the antenna at like the 7 to 7:30 O'clock position and no where near the shaft or the O-ring on it.
