Just remember that your neighbors will be there a while so if you want to have that kind of on-going relationship, then paint all you want- some really blazing flourescent colors and then put a big ol' black light on it if that makes you happy. j/k

OK seriously....whatever you and your wife agree to do, then go for it! Keeping peace at home is important, right? Does that extend to your neighbors? Just something to consider.

Personally I'd rather talk to them about adding a timer to the light, a motion sensor, or find another solution. You can do whatever makes you happy, just try not to get caught up in the moment and look for revenge... that is my best advice.

Good luck!

Many communities consider this as "light trespass." Your neighbor does not have the right to shine bright lights onto your property. Check to see if there are any light trespass ordinances in your town or county.

It's as annoying as the neighbor playing loud music at night.

Cat, I did suggest a motion detector when I made the initial contact about the light. The suggestion was rejected as absurb. They were not going to do anything about it. I did consider a pellet gun attack, but it would be rather obvious where it came from.

Run some speaker wire out toward that area and play "rap" music all day and night. Just keep it loud enough so they can hear it but you and other neighbors can't. Painting the fence will only bring down the property value and make your property look bad.

I do like the idea of a pellet gun.... good one!

Once while camping some idiot in a tent sets their generator right next to my trailer. So I backed in the diesel truck, fired it up and just let it run with the exhaust aimed at their tent. They got the idea very quickly and moved the generator to the other side of their camp site. I waited a few more minutes before I shut off the truck, just to make sure they got the message.

Don't paint it florescent orange and green. Instead put a highly reflective surface on it and then angle it so it shines back into their windows. Then if they ask you why you did that tell them that you felt guilty about using their light on your property and wanted to return it to them.

Build the fence and be done with it. Why start another Hatfields and McCoys type situation? Extremely immature and could provoke a border war. This is not what you need.

Most every RVer on this board HATES Home Owner's Associations - the implication is that no one should be able to tell me where I can park my RV. So if someone doesn't like looking at an RV, tough luck

Now, here we have a guy with a bright light. Why is it that everyone feels it's OK for them to tell him how to live? If he told them to get their RV into a storage area rather than in their yard (so they didn't have to look at it), I can only imagine the responses.

Build your fence. Put up a blind (IMO, your wife is being unreasonable). Enjoy life.

I like the idea of coating and angling the fence so that the light goes into THEIR bedroom. As a timely alternative, a obnoxious political message might be suitable. Or you could hire somebody to violently break into their home, proving that the lighting is fruitless.

Seriously, isn't there some way to shade or direct the light fixture only into their property?

Then it may be time to buy some very modern & quite stylish bamboo shades with a blackout liner. Tell your wife they are the latest in fashion for interior decorating. We love ours, as I said they are very stylish and add texture... After all, we ladies must have lots of texture in interior design. One thing though, we don't need the blackout liner since our neighbors aren't that close to begin with... but if they were and had too much light shining at us, I would have ordered the blackout liner.

Once again, good luck... I have faith you will get this thing figured out, without a pellet gun.
