One other thing that might work in this case. Get a theatrical light that has the gel covers that change the color of the light and shine it at their house. Put a few objects on the gels so it looks like shadows running across their yard.

Not sure if the OP lives inside the city limits of Tyler, Texas or not, but it appears from this document file that Tyler has legislated light trespass laws.

Lighting Code

Not sure of the origin of the doc file or the validity of the claims, but a legal recourse is less risky than some of the others offered here.

Many thanks for this info. I will investigate Monday. The property is definitaly inside the city limits. I wonder why the police did not know of this ordnance. I was told there was nothing they could do. Perhaps I talked to the wrong sgt on duty.

If the light is a dusk to dawn light get yourself a spotlight with a tight beam, hook it up to a timer to turn on at dusk and off at dawn. Aim it at the senser of the neighbors light....lights out!

Probably because it's not a criminal matter, but something to do with building and electrical codes. I wouldn't expect the police to deal with property line disputes, either.

Let us know how it turns out.

If you used a laser shooting out a long tube so the end of the laser can't be seen, the neighbor might not even see why the light is going off

Where I live, we have to work via Code Enforcement. It may be a different department than where you are going.
Good luck

A lot of great suggestions however most were aimed at the lady being home at night and she was not. She has to sleep sometime during the day and noise is always a factor when one is trying to sleep.
