I know this is a little late in the game, but I finally decided to put headers on the old beast. I ordered some thorleys and then find out they decided not to build the model I need or for that matter not even for the Ford 460 motor home application anymore. Banks and Gibson also are not making them anymore. So my question is whether there is another source that I have not thought of? The chassis is 1989 John Deere/Osh Kosh 460 carburetor with air injection.

Thanks for the information. I will check and see if they will work or not. Summit is where I ordered from orginally and there Web site isn't up to date. The second issue is the air injection. The third issue is,can you order just any header and have fit the chassis?

How urgent is your need? Thorley builds headers in batches. They will run out for a while and then 6 months to a year later, they have them again. That was the case with mine. Also check Thorley directly, rather than going through a distributor. They list an FI version, and a carb version. I would call Thorley directly and find out what the difference is, and if that difference is meaningful. THY-212Y-C carb, THY-214Y-FI-C FI. I'm guessing the FI may not have smog fittings, but you may be able to weld them in.

Also, some things are a bit confusing. There is Dougs headers and Doug Thorley headers. Seems to be two different companies - maybe??? Summit lists Dougs headers?

Mail order exhaust parts can be trouble some, particularly if there are complication in the installation process.
Try talking to these guys: Stan custom headers in Seattle @ 800-962-6467

My need is not urgent till next spring. I had my headers on order with Summit since mid August and was told this week that Thorley is not going to build that line any more, because of demand. Doug's headers are a branch off from Thorleys after a bitter divorce. The part number that I need from Thorleys is THY-212Y-S or THY-212Y-S-C. S for Air injection and C for Ceramic.

Thanks guys for your input! It looks like after making some more phone calls to places like Stan's custom headers and other similar places that were suggested, I have kind of come back full circle to Banks power. The prices that are being quoted come very close to the price of a Banks set up. The first time I called Banks they could not help me, but with a little effort on there part, they found all the parts needed to put together a power pack for my beast. Now I just have to decide whether to pay for the upgrade. Again this forum has come through with great information!

I put Hedman headers on my 454 chevy 3 years ago. The left header cracked at the spot where the 4 tubes enter the collector. The bolt holes that fasten the header to the head were not located corectly so I had to open all the holes up 1/32" to get them to fit. The cone that they use to connect the header to the exhaust pipe wore thru and I had to tack weld the two togeather to get home from a long trip. I made up some replacement cones on a lathe from 3/4" plate and they work OK now. The welding on these things were bad. It looked like somebody in training had done the work. The EGR tubes on three of the primaries were to far in and I cut off about 3/8 t0 1/2" to equal the other tubes.
