Vintage, do you have the radius door on yours or the flush mount? The flush mount is listed as being more water tight than the radial (Which is the standard door that most rvs have).
Depending on how the water heater entrance was done (On my front window, for example, the aluminum skin was folded back into the opening to protect the wood frame), I'll likely pack butyl tape behind the skin and flash the edges, then caulk around the unit. Depending on the door installation, I may push the water heater out just a bit so that I have a lip that I can caulk between the siding and the water heater.

34 years, that's great for longetivity. Mine is going on 20 next year and the fridge went after 18 years. Somehow I think you got your money's worth with the age of the tc.
Congrats on the long life so far.

I imagine I have the standard radius door, it doesn't look particularly flush. I can think of lots of ways to do the heater and door install better, they just weren't done on my TC. Oh well, this is the first thing I've found that wasn't done in a reasonably proper manner.

Joe, have you checked rv parts outlet?? They're up in Tualatin and they list the water heater you're looking for on sale for $239.95 and the door for $32.40. I've buy most of my bigger ticket items there because they're usually cheaper and I can just pick it up with no shipping hassle. It looks like that's their warehouse for shipping from so anything I have needed has always been in stock.

Hey joe, try the url ... lacking that, try google
http://www.rvpartsoutlet.com/
They're in Tualatin. I've driven by but never stopped in person. I don't know if they do counter sales or only online. Might be worth checking to see if you can avoid shipping.
Starting Monday, I won't be around during the day to tease you, I'll be working

Joe, Sorry, been out hunting over the weekend. They have a small parts showroom and also sell campers and pop up trailers out of their warehouse.
