I have not experienced any problems at all with Service Pack 3 on my Dell Inspiron 9300 with XP-Pro OS.

I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

When it first came out I heard there were all kinds of problems. About 2 months ago I installed it on several computers and so far no problems. Evidently they straightened it out.

I installed on my XP Pro and DW's XP Home Edition. Both are fine. We have upgraded 60+ PCs at work - also no problem.

The first three times I tried to install SP3 it failed to install, but it did not break anything.

I had to run a script to reset a bunch of authorizations. I think that might have been due to running SpyBot.

I also had to install it running in Safe Mode.

Once installed it has been flawless.

I backup my C partition before and after any significant update and also every few months.

As a programmer, I learned 34 years ago that there is no such thing as too many backup copies.

The only issue that I have seen to date, after updateing many PC's, is the loss of Wireless cabability on a few laptops. There is a simple fix which involve deleteing 1 Windows file and reinstalling the Wireless drivers.

What am I doing wrong? I've tried installing SP3 twice and both times after the install was completed I end up with no Address Block on the Task Bar.

That's a good question. I have had no problems with windows the way it is and that's why I'm hesitant to install this update.

This computer is wired so I guess I should have no problems and might as well just do the install.
Thanks everyone for your replies!

Roy

Let us know how it goes Roy. We've tried it twice on a 2 year old HP wired to a router, both times could not get it to start so removed and blocked it for now. This summer was the last time we tried. Richard
