gmc vortec 8.1 upper idle pulley and belt is giving me alot of problems with squel this is the fifth time I had it repair doesn't seem to go away. has anyone had this problem and how was it resolved.

Correct belt (particularly length)?
Pulleys lined up-- check with straight edge?
Belt tensioner spring OK?
Checked accessories for one seized up or even just tight bearing?

You could be overloading the alternator,( Too Many Low Batteries) which will cause a squeal on start up.You also may have a Fan Clutch that needs to be changed.

They are probably spaying or treating the belt you have. And, idler pulleys don't squeal or squeak unless they sprayed something on the belt, or the bearing is fried. Then they hollar.

I agree with rollincool (another all Chevy guy), put a new belt on it.

gmc replaced belt, upper idler pulley, placed a sealant and cleaner. the repair was done 9 months ago and I'm a part timer. the rv is not used alot. mostly every other weekend and a 2 week vacation. this is a problem since new and had the rv repaired 5 times, so they say.

You don't say what year but if it is recent and has the multi rib belt it is probably an alignment problem. I don't remember the exact order on the 8.1 but several recent v8's have had an alignment problem. Usually the power steering pulley is not in alignment with the rest of the accessories. With the short distances between the pulleys it causes the belt to slide on the idler which makes it noisy.
If the dealer can't seem to fix it have them contact the zone for assistance.
