I fairly regularly take a 5-10 minute power nap in the afternoon after work. Sit down and relax for a bit, my grandson has Barney or Pooh playing on the TV and I zone out. Very refrehing!
Anything over 20 minutes and I am groggy and will keep drifting off the rest of the day.

Don - two and half hours later is not a nap. You were sleeping. I read somewhere a long time ago that a nap longer than 10-20 minutes will NOT refresh you but cause exactly what you are experiencing. And being startled awake from a deep sleep by the phone does not help either.

When I was needing naps a few years ago I actually would set a timer to go off in 15 minutes. When I began doing this I thought to myself that this was ridiculous because surely I would just be nodding off and when the alarm would ring and what kind of relaxation would that be? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I was revitalize after a short timeframe.

Notice, nearly everyone who responded who has no problems with their naps mention a much shorter duration than yours. The next time you get a chance to, try the timer thing and see if it helps.

I never told my co-pilot that I was going to take a nap. It was always,...."going to rest my eyes". The cockpit voice recorder has a way of modifying your verbage....

I have been sitting here trying to figure out what a "power" nap is. Do you lift weights while you are sleeping? Recharge all the portable batteries in the house? That would be somewhat anti-productive I think.........

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

But here's MY question: why is it, that it can take me an hour to fall asleep at night - but let me sneak in a nap in the middle of the afternoon; in the bright daylight; with all the day's noise and confusion....and I fall asleep immediately??

And no - the napping doesn't interfere with the nighttime sleep since I don't get to take a nap NEAR as often as I'd like?

You know.... As I read this thread title (I truly have nothing to add to the thread) I am reminded of the old joke

Questioner to woman: Do you ever wake up grumpy?

Woman: Sometimes I wake him up, Sometimes I let him sleep
