DW and I have just found a new hobby, geocaching. For those unfamiliar with geocaching, it is searching for hidden containers that contain at least a log book to enter your find. Some geocaches contain small exchange items - you take an item and leave an item. Coordinates for the caches and clues are found at geocaching.com. Caches are located all over the world. Geocachers will need a hand held GPS to locate the caches.
Geocaching and RV travel are made for each other. Many state parks have caches. Almost all towns will have caches. The joy of seaching is the people who have hidden the containers want to show the people seeking something interesting in the area.
We spent a week camping near Springfield, IL. While we were there, we geocached and visited the normal historic sites. Our searches took us to three lovely local parks that we would not have known about. We also learned little known facts about the Springfield area.
People of all ages can enjoy the searching, hiking and learning. For more information visit geocaching.com. (My only connection with geocaching.com is my free account under willphi.)
I hope you find it as much fun as DW and I.

We have been doing it for several years now and really enjoy it. We are always surprised how many caches are out there and how many are in interesting places.

I hid one out in Quartzsite last year and posted it just a few weeks ago (lost the data..). It was found twice within a few days.

There's also stamp caching, same idea, except you rubber stamp the log book with your stamp, and use the one in the cache to stamp your own log.
Ones I've found did not require a GPS.
Agree with you, it's great fun!

We love it. Kids call it treasure hunting. We were on a short trip last month and picked up 8 - 10 caches while we were out. There are some really great locations and innovated caches out there.
You may also want to look at the Waymarking site as well. It is finding locations more than hidden caches. So neat places to search for and similar to Earth Caches it ask you to post a picture of the site etc...
