Maybe it's just the way you wrote it but the way I read it I think you have it backwards - the Canadian dollar has weakened by 8¢ since 10/1 and today (according to XE.COM) US$1 is worth CDN$1.16 (or CDN$1 is worth 86.4¢US).
Why? who knows!!!

I didn't even bother to read this thread but make no mistake if we go down, Canada goes down. And I'm pretty sure that most Canadians are quite aware of this fact. I spend a lot time with are Canadian brothers down south and they are good people but know one will get out of this mess unscathed.

I'm just glad ONE county has figured out how to make things work. Would Canada PLEASE declare we (USA) have WMDs and invade to save us! We could drain them of their money for our schools and roads etc. so they are in the same boat as us. Do you think we could get 10 billion a month from them. Of course they would have to drop a few bombs and destroy these things first. But they have their own oil so guess that won't work. This is meant to be funny.
The good old USA has not been doing very well for a long time now.
Trying to stay away from politics but I hope we can learn and improve next year after our election. If not god help us. This is RV.net and can you RV or retire and go full time after your 401K has tanked?
You need to ask why and get informed and not just read the day to day spin, but get a brain and vote like you future depends of it, as it does. This could be 1929 again.

kaydeejay,
I agree with you about the rates. I guess my post was confusing, but the Canadian dollar is worth less this year than last year at this time. No source of joy for me since I won't be traveling in Canada until next summer at the earliest, but it will make Canadians spend more to visit in the US for the winter.
The Mexican Peso has taken a bigger hit so it will be cheaper to spend time in Mexico if so inclined.
Who knows where this is going?? Not me.

We regulate our banks. People can't get mortgages if they can't afford it. The banks look at the mortgage requested and compare it to the income. If it doesn't meet the criteria they (people who want to buy the the house), don't get their mortgage approved.
Saves a lot of turmoil. The World Economic Council has indicated that Canada has the best banking system in the world.
Banking system ratings
Bank savings in Canadian banks are ensured up to a $ 100,000.00, I believe, although I would recommend this be confirmed.

Bingo! Interest on our mortgages is not tax deductable so there is no benefit to try and slip things in under a mortgage such as an RV. If you borrow whopping sums of money, you need to replay even larger whopping sums of money. The banks will simply deny applications if there is any doubt in your repayment ability.

Lesmore49 Hit it on the head.Thats what wrong with the USA.Way to much money given out to people who couldn't afford it.Mostly due to the government from as far back as 1976 making the banks loan money to folks who don't qualifiy. The key is to live within your means, not I want it now!

They will have it and it will be worse than ours. Why is simple they are an energy and materials exporting nation and if energy prices fall (oil down to 83 dollars right now as I write this from 147) they will feel the pinch. I am sorry they also have a huge number of workers who produce goods and services for the US consumer and that consumer is pulling back. It is a leading / lagging indicator type or thing..... Sorry but it will happen and probably sooner than you think....
Also the S&P TSX index show the 52 week high at 15,154 and it is around 9600 now.
