I made a really dumb mistake and connected the 12v battery wrong-backwards. (in my defense the negative black wire had a red piece of tape on it, it was dark, and cold...)
Now with a new battery nothing works on battery, the 120 AC works fine.
What did I break? Can I fix it myself?

The converter has a fuse that will blow if you connect it backwards, that is why you have no 12 volt electric. Replace the fuse and all is well.

Most likely blew the fuses on the converter's battery feed line. Need to follow the battery feed going in to the converter and find the fuse(s).

Yeah, check the main fuses coming from the battery... Chances are everything is OK after fuse replacement - we've all done it - don't feel too bad

Yeah, I tried to jump start a motorcycle once and hooked it up backwards. Blew the main fuse. Not hard to do...just check the fuses.

Also check your converter for a polarity reversal fuse. Many have them.

Been there, done that too. On my converter, I had two 35 amp fuses to protect against reverse polarity that blew. Replaced them and all was back to normal. I did have a hard time finding the 35 amp stab in type fuses though. If you need this type of fuse, let me know, I've got lots of extra now, since I could only find them in a packet of 25.

I haven't done that one yet. It is dark and cold out right now. I think I will just go get it out of the way....I have done other things that don't want to admit too....

One more vote for the fuse in converter. Did the same thing about 2 months ago.
