I decided to finally go with Dish Network after I found out today that once again, Comcast is raising their rates on my next bill. They are raising them about 6%.

They are coming out next week to install the Dish(s) next week. I asked them for an extra standard receiver for the rv. I have a crank up Winegard sat dish with one LNB (which means I have to rotate it to the different satellites when necessary) I will be getting a dish 500 dish and a tripod that I plan on using mostly with the rv.

I told them that one receiver was for the RV but there was no mention of local channels, waivers or whatever. What do I need to know about local channels? I ordered the americas 250 pack, will I get all those channels in my rv?

I like Dish. I also have an extra receiver for my RV and trailer. One hint... don't mention to Dish Network again that it's for an RV. Having a dish / receiver that's NOT in your primary residence is against their policies. I bought a used Dish receiver model 301 and a Dish 500 dish cheap. I mounted the dish on a tripod from Radio Shack that's designed to mount an antenna on a roof. A tent stake through the base feet and it's VERY stable. In fact, during our last round with tropical storms and hurricanes, it didn't get knocked out of alignment... and that's with an 8' tall mast.

Weird... We've been a Dish customer for 11 years, and they've always been great to us. We've had problems with the subcontractors who installed systems for us as we've upgraded, but Dish always came through and got things in line. We just set up one of our old receivers (one we owned) in our new RV in June. We told them it was going in the RV, they set it up with no problems. When it died, they sent us a replacement receiver at no cost, just asked us to send the old smart card in. I set the new receiver up the other night, called Dish making it clear that the receiver was in an Rv and got it set up within a few minutes. Works great. Very happy customer for 11 years.

that is Incorrect. Dish has a downloadable form you can fill out to cover your use of a receiver in a RV. Direct is the one that does not allow that. The waiver is required if you want locals and your zip code does not authorize them, or distant locals, don't remember which. And also some will say you can't get locals from Dish, this is technically correct, you need to go thru a 3rd party.
I have had Dish for many years and am totally satisfied.

Dish is awesome!! They have been helpful with me as well when I first put a receiver in the fiver. I simply leave it activated year round as in the winter I like to fire up the furnace and watch TV in it. It's only five bucks a month extra for the RV receiver.

As far as lining up the sat dish when on the road, that's easy enough. A good compass and a sat finder and in minutes the 110 and 119 is lined up. JMO

I have two receivers that I own in the RV and Dish knows it. I have two in the house and anytime I have trouble with the ones in the RV I call and tell them it's in the RV. I do have to call them occassionally because when the receivers in the RV stay unconnected for a period of time, they are locked and I have to call to get them unlocked. Dish says they do this in case someone has lost or their receivers have been stolen and then turned on after a period of time.
I didn't sign any waivers, I just don't get locals once I'm outside a 250 miles radius of my home. They are on a spotbeam and only goes so far. The waiver will just allow you to choose network channels but the larger areas that are on the satellite.

My advise, is change to DirecTV. Much easier to set up.

FWIW, when we first got our MH, we had Dish and were very disappointed with it in regards to receiving the local channels when we were even at home.
We switched to Direct and are very happy with the service.
We were told the reception of local channels might be lost when about 250 miles from our home base.
On our last trip, with the Direct and a Winegard followme satellite setup on the roof, DW was able to watch all our local channels while we were enroute to Utah.
Hope this helps.

I've had Dish for a couple of years & I just disconnect one of my home receivers & use it in my RV.

Since neither of my home HD receivers (VIP622 & 211k) are connected to phone lines (an extra fee to Dish of course), I think this makes moving the receivers easy.

Using the same box at home & in the RV hasn't been a hassle because running the infamous "Check Switch" is fairly easy -- You get a lot of practice because you have to do it every time you move the RV dish.

I use the VIP211 HD box in the RV with a Dish 500 which can get the 110 & 119 birds. Since my home dishes also get 61.5, I don't get all the channels on the road. But my local channels are usually available.
