Uh, ok... So I should switch to DirecTV after 11 years of satisfaction with Dish, due to easier setup? Easier than 5 minutes or so on the phone?
Just kidding... Whatever makes you happy!

I have had dish for many years and am thinking about giving direct a try. I have had no problems getting bills up until the last 6 months or so. Now I don't get a bill every month, I think they are trying to make me set up on auto pay on my credit card.
Thats been the only problem I have had, which it's not a large problem, but its just irritating.
We have two receivers in our RV and two at the house. No problem at all with them. Sometimes I have to call to get our RV receivers updated as they don't stay tuned to the dish all the time. It's nothing that a phone call can't fix. Good luck!

Actually my advise was to the OP, it has nothing to do with customer service, it is due to the fact if he is going to use the dish for his RV, DirecTV is easier to set up at the campsite. Dish Network has that funky angle to the dish. I've seen many campers get so frustrated they finally gave up, after watching me set mine up in 5 minutes or less. It has nothing to do with the "home" service.

direct has 5 LNB dishes, setting the "funky" angle is really tough, isn't it. somebody has posted in the past that in most of the lower 48 except far North, that you really can set it and forget it.
and Dish has the downloadable form to fill out for RV use whereas Direct wants a second contract for the RV.

I have a extra dish and box for our trailer and it costs me $5 a month, I don't have any extra contract. I was not trying to argue, but if you look at the posts' in reference to dish setups, most feel that DirecTV is easier to set up.

I don't know how difficult it will be to setup the dish 500 but I do have an old 2700 receiver in my rig from the previous owner. I had my rv parked level in my driveway, cranked the dish to 34 degrees per the digital Winegard readout thing I have and used a compass to align the rotating disc inside to North. I then rotated the dish to where it needed to be. I was able to tune into the 110 and 119, very easily. Of course, I only have the single lnb on my mounted dish so I would have to rotate between the two satellites depending on channel. I am hoping the tripod mount I get will be fairly easy also.
Is the alignment problem just because of the multiple satellites that have to be aligned with dish and Direct tv only has one to line up?

I guess that would be the arguement. But I mentioned earlier, a good compass and a sat finder no problem hitting 119 and 110 providing there are no obstructions. I leave my sat dish settings the same so when I get to a new site, I just look for the best level place to put the tripod. After doing it a few times, it is really quite easy. JMO

No, the alignment "problem" is something that direct owners who don't know dish always bring up. evidently they do not know that now direct has 5 LNB dishes that need aiming.

We began our service in the RV in AZ 2000 miles from home, when we lived in OH. We got a new Dish delivered the next winter in TX after using the old one at home for the summer. Turned out The service had been down too long instead of a problem. Now we still have a Dish LNB set after giving one back.
We now have Direct to try Direct out. After contract expires we will decide who we will use for long term. Some things I like better, some less.
Without a detailed comparison. Dish program guide organization, listings, needing only one receiver for two tvs in rv (space) and at least one more thing are better IMHO. The Direct receiver puts out less heat, objects can be put directly on it, some receiver options, and the oft mentioned slightly easier to aim.
Programing is similar unless you think paying $300 extra tobe able to see any game being played that week is worth it to you. Then Direct is your only choice.
Have not yet decided which I like better. Have plenty of time to decide. See below.
If you are semi-skilled at aiming the Dish you should have not problem. It ain't hard, if you use a compass. It is supposed to be slightly harder than Direct. Haven't used in rv yet.
I would have been disappointed if it averaged 5 minutes to aim. Once in KY it did take a lot longer due to tall trees in the way. If you are average, you should not have a problem.
I bought a sat finder for $5 from another Dish owner who didn't use it. It was unnecessary and only used a compass. I always was able to look through window of TT or 5er to watch power bars climb to peak.

I specifically did not sign a contract with the deal I agreed to for that very reason. I paid a $99 penalty though in going that route: so what. If I don't like Dish, I can always switch to Direct TV. One of them has to work for me.
The biggest thing is that I would love to just have more time to go out in the RV in the first place. I can't seem to find the time, I guess I am going to have to make time.
