Looks like there is more mis-informed information being tossed around here than many would like to deal with.
I have Direct TV. The waiver that I have with them is only to allow me to receive the 4 network stations from both Los Angeles and NY. We full time and have traveled in 47 of the 48 states and never had a problem (other than trees ). DirectTV knows full well that my receiver is in an RV and so Bumpy I'm sorry but your just wrong. Several of our friends have exactly the same setup.
About a year or two ago I believe that Dish was no longer to provide east/west coast feeds to RVers. But I'm not a Dish customer, so I'm not qualified to cast judgement here.

I guess you do not know the difference between "local" stations and the Distant Network Stations(DNS) so I will explain. Local stations are when you live in Omaha and get the local Omaha channels which I "assume" are spot beamed. Some are beamed COUSA IIRC. If you get the RV waiver, you can get the DNS which when I had them were LA and NY and yes you could get them in the COUSA, as they were not spot beamed. You are correct on one thing, Dish can not give you them but you can have DISH and get them thru a 3rd party. I have Dish, I have locals.
I thought I had a link to an actual map of the spot beam locations but can't find it.
So yes, you are spreading misinformation.
If somebody can get Denver locals in Pennsylvania, then there is a very simple explanation. They then are NOT spot beamed, although the web site would indicate that they are.

After reading the previous posts about the Denver stations on Dish, I came across this. It's about 14 posts down.

Sorry Bumpy if I got your dander up, but your statement "
The form is to allow you to use the receiver in the motorhome. something not allowed by Direct, if you tell them.
I am not talking about a RV Waiver.
bumpy "
clearly states that using a receiver in the motorhome is not allowed by Direct. Thats what I was replying to. If I took it out of context, I apologize.

Dave,

If your rig has the 1 lnb dish already on it, then I would go with Direct. You can get all the channels with one LNB and not have to move the dish. I realize they have a 3 or 5 LNB option now, but this must be for the HD channels, etc, because we still get ALL of the channels we ever did. We fulltime in our RV and have used Direct since the big blowup with Dish when they were no longer able to provide us with the Distant Local Channels. By the way, when we changed we were still using a tripod dish, and we did find Direct way easier to set up, even though we never had any problems aiming the Dish one.

yes, you are fulltiming and do not have direct in a stick house. they say that you cannot mirror your in house service in a motorhome without paying a second location fee. yes, lots of folks get by with it however, but that is their written policy.
but in these threads when folks are talking to about 5 other folks about different subjects, information gets crossed up.

Denver on Dish

thanks Jim, the pertinent part of that thread:
Regarding locals: Almost all SD and HD locals either have gone or will go to spot beams. One exception is the Denver locals. Why? Simply because the geographical area--the DMA-- where these locals can be legally subscribed to is so large that no spot beam can cover it. So, for the foreseeable future, Denver should remain on ConUS, or Dish will have to put those channels on 2-3 different spots. Even NY is converting to spot beams. The NY HD went spot a few days ago, SD is still ConUS, but who knows for how much longer.

so that "splains" why Denver is available at such a broad range, it is ConUS.

At one time I believe that Dish has several cities besides LA and NYC on continental beams. I think the others were were Chicago, Denver and possibly Atlanta.
Here's a link to a map of the US show the DMAs, or TV markets.
Denver DMA Map
The more you study those maps, the less sense they make. That's a very strange laid out DMA for Denver. Every county in blue is the Denver DMA. Click on See USA Map and you can see the rest of the country.

I have Dish Network and when we went on a Rv trip I would cut the power off the receivers and use a another receiver I have in the RV. My bill would go up $20 a month when I did this. It was $5.00 for the receiver and $5.00 for programing. Because I had cut the power to the two receivers at the house and they could not call over the phone line. I got another $10.00 charge for the two receivers. This went on a couple times until I finially pined them down on what was going on. I got very mad cancel the service and was supose to go to Direct TV but the guy never showed up. No call nothing, from the installer. I got a call from Direct TV asking me how I like the service I had not got. I was on the phone for over a hour with them trying to find out what happen. I never did and still with Dish Network. I don't cut the power off the receivers when we leave anymore.

A couple of observations.

Generally, the copyright laws do not allow a satellite provide to offer both local channels and DNS service to the same household. Ignoring this rule is what got Dish in trouble and, as a consequecnes, Dish can no longer provide DNS. (Note: Dish's violation dealt with "stick" house in that they provided DNS service to stick houses that could get over-the-air local channels. It would have been acceptable for Dish to provide the local channesl, but not DNS.)

There are exceptions, notably a grandfather clause. Any subscriber that had DNS service prior to a specified date (the actual date escapes me now) was allowed to keep it.

Since there is a third party providing DNS to Dish customes, I'm not sure how the law applies. As far as DirecTV, I believe you can find some service representatives that do not know the law and will let you have local and DNS on the same account, but they should not.

If you are interest here is the US Code.

Tom
