This didn't happen to us but I wanted to share this story. The DW works as a CSR at the local home town bank and a friend of ours, Doris, came in this week after just loosing her mother. She was telling the DW about her mom having a Shih Tzu dog and after trying to decide what to do with it after her mothers' passing, she and her husband decided to bring him home. She went on to say that her mom has been very regimented in the little dog's care and treatment and had raised him from a puppy. On the first day in it's new home, Doris said that she took the dog's bowl, put in his food, heated it in the microwave for 9 seconds just like her mom did, then put it in the little stand that the bowl had always sat in and the dog just looked at her - then looked at the bowl - then back at her. Doris thought to herself "what's wrong now?". After a minute she thought about it. Ever since the Shih Tzu was a puppy, Doris' mom said a blessing over the food! Doris told the DW that she stopped and said a blessing, through her tears, over the little dogs food and he ate! She told the DW that after that, she couldn't imagine what would have happened if she and her husband had decided NOT to keep him. I thought this was a great story and wanted to share. Be careful out there and have a great day.

What a sweet story!

I am so glad they decided to keep that special boy. I hope they have many happy years together. I can imagine her mom is smiling down upon them and what a great way to have a living memory of her. I should know, we now have my mom's dog.......I guess that is why my eyes are clouding up reading your post. Very touching.

Very touching, and extremely good that the daughter knew her mother's habits with the dog. Had she lived cross country, she might not have, and who knows what would have happened? Very touching! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome story! Makes perfect sense now that you mention it. Animals are (in their own way) very grateful for the food they get each day. Only makes sense to include their meal in the daily blessing.

Wow.....

Your Mom has to be smiling and watching the two of you bond and get to know each other better. Thank goodness you knew what your Mom did as part of the feeding ritual. Enjoy this little treasure.
