When we purhcased our 2005 Dutch Star motorhome the factory had 125# of air in all the tires and the motorhome was all over the road. Using the factory weights I adjusted the air down to 110# in the fornt ( the more air in the front tires the harder the ride) and 100# in the rear which was working out fine. I just found a scale in the area and now have the weight on each wheel and it appears that I was a little low in the front pressure and high in the rear pressure. I just want to make sure that I am reading the Michelin chart correctly before I make any adjustments. My tires are Michelin 275/70R22.5 LRJ's. Max front tire weight is 6210# and the max rear tire weight is 9150#. Per the chart that should equal 115# of air in the front and 85# in the rear. Am I correct or is their a safety factor I should be adding in?

Thank's

You appear to be reading it right. Hard to tell without chart in hand.

If you have the weight for both axels loaded for travel (fluids, toys, etc) then you could add 500#s to each axel for safety and go to the chart for the correct number of lbs. On my 04 gas Kountry Star I was able to drop the pressure from 120# to 90# and it drove like a completely different coach! I have put 59,000 miles on it with those pressures and have never had a tire problem. Keep in mind, that I weighted with toad attatched and all fluids full and toys in the compartments.

The chart will not be correct until you weigh your MH loaded as you travel. Your weight WILL be different from the factory's maximum weight. Do add 10 pounds of air to each tire from the called for pressure after you weigh your coach. I used the recommend air pressure without adding 10 PSI and cupped my front tires from under inflation.

You speak of max pressures and max loads.

Unless your loads are maximum your pressures should not be

You weigh the wheel, all 4 of 'em and then on the front axle you use the "Single Tire" chart to set the pressure

If you have duals on the rear you use the "Dual Tire" chart for the rear (if not then single)

Set each wheel to the proper pressure for the load it carries

On duals both inner and outer are set the same

"Do add 10 pounds of air to each tire from the called for pressure "

----------------

Wow, If I did that, I would exceed the max PSI rating printed on the sidewall of my Bridgestone tires by 10 lbs.

You see that is the problem.. Unless you are running at the maximum load for the tire,,, You are running too much pressure already

Pressure is determined by the load on the tire, the more load, the more pressure

The lower the load, the lower the pressure.. The pressure on the side wall is the proper pressure for one, and only one, load.. The maximum

Another thing.. Motor home tires are usually in the 100PSI range (more or less) 10 pounds is less than the margin of error on the gage at 100 PSI

Add 10% to what you need by the chart to be safe.

I have to believe that the tire manufacturer has already built in the "safety" factor into the recommended air pressure to weight so adding 10 lbs to the recommended pressure is just overkill.

After weighing, use the charts to determine the minimum pressure for those weights.
