nickpick...that is a good thing.....there is no reason to close those cards, just keep doing what you are doing and you will be fine.
In 45 plus years we have never carried a balance on a cc. It has swerved us well. Two weeks ago we walked into an auto dealer and a couple of hours later drove out with a brand new 2009 SUV. No down and financed for 72 months. Just like that
If you keep on the way you are, even this economy will not make much of a difference. The best of luck to you on your new adventure

We became SD residents in 2005. Opened a bank account in Sioux Falls for
our everyday banking needs. Have SS and retirment checks auto-deposited
there. Still maintain a checking account in Indiana bank with 401K money
deposited automatically. Both banks carry our "full-timing" address in
South Dakota. Have credit/debit cards tied to each account--for overdraft
protection only. Have never had any problems with this set-up.

We have been with a local bank for over 20 years but when we discussed our plans to go fulltime it made more sense to change to a bank that had branches in multiple states. We looked SunTrust at first, then found that some of their fees were not travel friendly, The biggest one of was ATM fees! We confirmed that we could have fees as large as $7.00 per transactionin some cases. We have settled on Capital One. The personal banker at the branch local to our homebase got us setup with online banking, debit card and a new credit card in less than an hour. The online banking allows us to transfer funds between Capital One and non Capital One accounts online easily. The only problem we had initially was my auto deposit of retirement checks. They helped over the phone and that was resolved with very little impact. We are Texas based and so far ATMs and branches have been in every state we have visited. Their low balance ($1000) requirements for no ATM fees at any machine allows us to keep more funds in interest bearing accounts. Their online bill pay system is easy to manage.
