The 'better' Flying J near Wytheville, Va, IMO, is the more southerly one on the part of I-81 & I-77 where they're routed together. I believe it's at exit 77 on I-81. It's just north of where I-77 comes down from WVa. Restaurant, big convenience / truckers' store, and a Burger King right next door. They've got about six pull-thru RV spots in the parking lot on the restaurant side, away from the trucks. No opinion on how easy they are to get into, since my nineteen-footer fits into a car space . Getting out of the lot is awkward due to the angle the driveway makes with the road, tho'.

The good Flying J is at exit 80. It is called Fort Chriswell and has parking against the grass for about 5 rigs and several regular long parking spaces. Off a service road so not so noisy.

Wytheville, and Fort Chiswell are nowhere near the West Va border you'll be crossing from. Matter of fact, if you're coming down I-81 from the north it is several HOURS from THAT West Va border.
The Flying J in northern Va does not have that many RV sites up front, and it's very tight.

Yes, the Wytheville/Fort Criswell area is 250 miles south of the WV/VA border on I-81.
How far does the OP want to travel from CT.?

I have stayed in the rest stop in WV and in VA before. It is ok but a bit noisy. you can also stay at the flying j as noted but those are the easiest in and out.
