I have found a 2002 coachman 298fk.Can anyone share with me the neg's and pos's of these TT? This will be our first TT. Would this be a good choice for a first time buyer? I have showed it to a family friend that has pulled TT's and 5'ers for many years and he has given us a good report. We have been looking at 5th wheels since we started looking and this one is a bumper hitch style. What really caught my eye was the price. They are asking $5950.. The wife and I want to find something to do together since the childeren are doing there on things now. Is this a good start to test the waters? Thanks in advance.

You should post that question on the Travel Trailers forum.

Welcome to the Forum.
Hard to say if this is a "good choice for a first time buyer."
Any used trailer, regardless of make, model or brand is only as good as how well it has been maintained. A top dollar Airstream can be bad deal if it has been neglected. Certainly $5950 is a very good way to "test the waters".

Another consideration is - do you have a suitable tow vehicle to pull this unit?

Good luck with your new adventure.

For the price, I think it's a great way to "test the waters". Make sure you get it checked out and pay attention to trouble spots like the roof, etc. As noted above, make sure you have the proper tow vehicle and you're all set.

Can't be of MUCH help other than to say that we've owned ONE Coachmen travel trailer and it was an excellent trailer. Towed it over 40,000 miles in three years and never had a repair of any kind done on the trailer. WE got rid of the Coachmen only because we retired and needed something larger in which to spend more time. Good luck with your search / Skip

By all means get a used trailer for your first one, especially if you've spent little or no time in one. With zero experience it's hard to know what you want/need. By getting used, if you've found out that it doesn't suit, you won't lose your you know what. We certainly learned a LOT on our first TC and it turned out to be unsuitable. We bought used and got our money back when we sold it. That never would have happened had we bought new.
