So you believe the government would be better at building cars than everything else they are getting involved in?
Oh, I'm sure they will be every bit the quality level of the legendary Yugo.

And GM abandoned the Mini-Van market.
Plus a merge of Jeep and Hummer may make sense (if it's not too late). No more arguing over how many vertical bars in the radiator grille!

It would be interesting which Dealerships get closed. Two in every town will be history I expect and we will see "regional" dealerships. They are going to have to save a trillion dollars to save the two companies I expect.
Wonder why with 0% interest they were not making any money.

Amtrack could expand to become Am-Car and Am-Truck...
(Amtrack looses money and yet stays afloat on Federal subsidies, why not the auto industry?)

Well, the private equity firm that bought Chrysler also owns 51 percent of GMAC and wants to trade the automaker for the remaining 49 percent of GMAC they do not have. I do not know if that is a benefit or a liability to them. GM has huge unfunded pensions and GMAC has huge exposure to sub prime so who will win. WHo knows.

The 0% interest deal was the only way that American buyers could afford to buy them in our "globalized" economy.
American business is starting to reap what they sowed by globalizing. Put simply, sending factories, and the jobs that went with them overseas, was short siighted. Good profits in the beginning as the wealth was here. But along with the factories and jobs the wealth eventually diminished.
