Has anybody painted their satelite dish? If so, did it affect the signal? I did a search on the net and got some that say yes and others that say no. Anybody here do it?

I can't imagine it affecting the signal. If you use a water base paint and water base verathane afterwards...I wonder if the ones that had a problem may have 1) used metallic paints or 2) bumped something in the process of painting that caused problems.

Do a google search on this also. I would like to paint my dish like a yellow smiley face, and then paint a bullet hole in the forehead area with a little trickle of blood coming down.

All satellite dish TV antennae are available in similar colors. Subscribers may want to paint the satellite dish to match it with the color of their house, RV or motor home. If installed in the yard, the dish antenna can be colored to blend in with the surrounding plants. The objective here is to camouflage the dish so it does not stand out, which may affect the general look of a community or mobile home. Take the following steps to paint your satellite dish TV antenna without hampering signal reception.

InstructionsDifficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Brush for painting
Good quality paint
Covering for the LNBF
Step1 Identify the color in which the satellite dish needs to be painted. Look for a high quality outdoor paint that does not peel. Request that the home improvement store salesperson recommend a quality paint.
Step2 Buy non-glossy paint with a dull finish. Always go for non-glossy paints. Glossy, semi-glossy and metallic paints make the dish antenna extremely shiny, thereby increasing reflection of the signal to the LNBF. This causes signal loss and will disrupt satellite TV reception.
Step3 Paint the dish, taking precautions to protect the LNBF from getting any paint on it. From "e-Howto.com"

If painting it caused a problem, a company I once worked with would not have painted every one they made. This was back when all that were available were 10 ft. in diameter. I would think that if the paint did anything at all, it would make the surface more reflective of the RF signals it collects. After all, that is the sole purpose of the dish portion of the equipment. That is, to reflect the signal to the focal point where the pre-amp can pick it up.

I do antenna installations of all types. Just did a microwave hop from a PD to the top of a mountain. To disguise the white antenna on the hill top I just used a rattle can paint. You can get fancy but I just needed to break up the silhouette

Mine came painted from DirecTV. Common sense tells me if they can paint it so can I.
