When I attempt to change channels with my DTV remote, I get more than one number for each number I press. For example, I want to change to channel 360, when I press 3 I may get one 3 or 4 threes. So in my attempt to press 360 I may get 3360 or 3600 or any combination of 4 digits. And of course, the receiver doesn't change channels. Instead it says channel not available. If I press the prev button, it may go to the previous channel or go there and come instantly to the original channel. It appeared that the remote was overly sensitive. I assumed the problem was with the remote, so I ordered and new one. I had the same problem with the new remote.

Then I called DTV and they sent me a new receiver. I installed it and began the set-up. When I came to the point of entering my zip code, I pressed 3 for the first digit and got several 3s. At that point, I discontinued the set-up and reinstalled the old receiver.

So the question: Is there anything else that could be causing this problem: cable, dish, LNBs (I have the oval 3 LNB dish). This receiver is in my house.

I appreciate any help y'all could give me before I call DTV again.

Thanks, George

Try fresh batteries in your remote. They all get a bit flaky when the batteries run down.

I think you may be numerically challenged.

I had a problem a few days ago. The remote would not work at all nor would the buttons on the "box". I would reset unit and it would work for a few hours then same problem. Direct finally told me it was a "satellite" problem. Haven't had the problem in over a week.

I have two new remotes with the new batteries they came with plus I have tried other new batteries, same problem with both. I think JHAPP may be correct. I've about decided it's a side-effect of radiation treatment I recently received.

Do you happen to have a wireless remote extender for use in other rooms? If the IR transmitter is positioned wrong the receiver sees reflections and repeats the numbers.

Possibly reflections?
Besides the original signal from the remote, your receiver may picking up one or more signals reflected from a wall or the ceiling. The reflected signal is being picked up by the receiver a split second after the original signal and gives you more than one digit.
I can point our remote in any direction in the family room and it will change channels or a function. The exception is when I point the remote out the family room door into the kitchen. Then it dosn't happen.
I've noticed occasionally that if I have the remote pointed up, between the receiver and the ceiling, instead of directly at the receiver, it will see two commands ocassionally.

Thank you jhilley. That was the problem. I disconnected my leap frog and it solved the problem.
