I had the same problem with my RF remotes. DTV said that it may be a DTV programming problem. I have two RF remotes and three receivers and two DVR's. The problem occured with either remote and any receiver until lately. They must have done something to fix the situation.
That sounds like the same problem, since you are, in effect, changing the remote signal from IR to RF back to IR with the remote extender. Their fix for my situation must not have worked with an after-market apparatus.
