Our crank up Wineguard (sp) became bent up on a trip and yes it was cranked all the way down before we left.

On a fuel stop, I noticed the front aluminum wing standing up at nearly a 45 deg angle to the roof, I hoisted my 10 year old up and he bent it back down in place. A few hours later, same thing.

When we left the CG, the antenna was down all the way. I can't remember us ever coming even close to any branches that could have caught the front wing and bent it up like that.
Anyway, after the highway wind bending it back up again, I just replaced the everything that connects to the two upright tubes with a used one I got for a good deal.
Funny thing, on our new TT, the original antenna, the aluminum wings were factory bent upward at the tips and on this used older one, they are bent downward at the tips.

Looks like the one that came with our TT was not designed to keep the airflow on top but rather scooping air under it.

weird...

Not to sound stupid but.....Do not put it past the the manufacturer of your TT, to mount your antenna upside down.....stranger things have happened!!!!!!!!

We had that happen several years ago to our TT. We went head-on into a storm squall on I-80 in far western Nebraska that packed winds so severe we were forced to pull onto the shoulder. When we arrive at our campground we noticed that the leading wing of our TV antenna was bent upward. I was relieve that the storm hadn't caught us broadside as hard telling what could have happened!!

Comprehensive insurance bought a replacement antenna head.

The original antenna was mounted right I think because the 4 rubber buttons that are supposed to rest on the roof were facing down like they should
just the wing tips were different

we were in some pretty strong cross winds, but nothing head on except the wind at 65 mph

I'm glad to hear it happened to someone else though...

Another question on your mounting. The correct way is for the antenna to fold down toward the back of your vehicle. Was your's incorrectly mounted so it folds toward the front of the vehicle? This way would allow wind from traveling down the freeway to cause it to rise. One other questiion. Do you line up the arrow inside your unit so the antenna lowers in the correct direction? If the antenna was mounted backwards by the manufacturer, they should replace it no-charge.

Yep, I once lowered the antenna with the bat wing facing the front. It bent up after a trip to Bismarck. I did not have the arrow lined up right when I lowered. I was just listening for the sound of it touching the roof.

Also if it's mounted backwards or lowered backwards the lift mechanism won't break up and block some wind from directly hitting the wings on the antenna and I could easily see how you could bend the wings with enough wind hitting the leading wing edge head on.

I think strong cross winds would easily pick up one of the "wings" while traveling at 65mph. Even say a 20mph cross wind on the side would be able to pick up one side (even an inch or so) of the antenna and the 65mph forward speed finish the job. I would doubt that Winegard or the trailer manufacturer would be at fault for poor workmanship or incorrect installation.

Everyone is law suit happy now days, things happen, I would suggest buying a replacement or check with your insurance agent to see if it would be covered.

The antenna plastic body that raises up and down was facing front to back. The wing shape of the plastic part was facing into the wind.

as far as the arrow lining up, the thing shouldn't lower completley unless it is lined up. That puts the poles into the little cradle on the swivel..
