Here it is October, we are on what really is our maiden voyage after all the family health problems, and it is wonderful. We are staying at a beautiful campground here is Illinois, I was worried about needing to know how to work the heat. Well it turns out that the A/C has been used every day and I haven't even thought about the heat, other than to wish it would go away. So everyone that winterized early has missed a Great weekend to camp.

We went to Shabbona 2 weeks ago and are planning on going to Rock Cut on Friday. We are hoping for slightly cooler weather for our last camp out. We really like fall camping and wish we could do more.

I wish. After years of renting, we finally bought a TT last month. We live in Minnesota, but thought we would get to use it a few weekends before putting it in storage for the winter. Much to our surprise, many campgrounds in Minnesota close for the season by the 3rd or 4th weekend of September! We decided to go to a State Park about two hours from us the weekend before last, but then the wife got the flu. In the end, my boys and I had a "campout" with the trailer parked in the driveway last Saturday night. We did s'mores over a campfire in the yard, then played cards and made popcorn in the camper before going to sleep in it.
And that was it. Our winter storage facility required us to be in by this weekend, so on Sunday afternoon we dropped it off. We won't see it again until April.

Not to hijack, but we are considering Rock Cut this weekend, although our schedule is kind of "iffy" and we may have to go Saturday. I wonder if they'll let us camp if we arrive Saturday afternoon? Do they have a place to fill fresh water when pulling in, or do we have to do it by "gallons"? Thanks.

So did we. I brought winter coats/hats/gloves in case the weather changed but it certainly didn't and it was glorious! Now we need to winterize

Kampfire Kid,
Usually at this time of year Rock Cut has lots of open spots, so I'm sure you would have no problem coming on Saturday. I'm pretty sure there is a place to fill up with water.

Camping in Upstate NY is also difficult because most of the campgrounds close on or before Columbus Day. We were out two weeks ago for the weekend it was wonderful. The leaves were about peek so we drove up to Tahawus near Newcomb NY, then on into Long lake before returning to Cedaridge. That is our property In Schroon Lake. The best thing is that it is open year round and I never need a reservation because I own it. (only used for snow shoeing in the winter). I hope to get one more trip in this year before I winterize.

Thanks, fellow camper! Rock Cut called me back today and confirmed what you have said. Plenty of sites and water to fill up there. I will most likely fill up before we leave as we are only 25 miles away. We will be arriving there this Friday afternoon, as well. Look around for us when you are there. We have a 2009 North Trail 31BHD, and our tow vehicle is a 2008 Ford F-150 King Ranch Supercrew in a Mahogany color. We are always interested in meeting fellow campers. Happy camping.

Well our mountain campgrounds should be closing soon, but our desert camping season is just beginning. The desert is beautiful in the fall and winter. Warm days and cool/cold nights. Glad we don't have to do the whole winterizing ritual. We really wouldn't have a clue as to what to do first. I am looking forward to winter...
