I know I've seen posts in the past regarding the general rule for %age off MSRP you should expect. I can't seem to find it here right now tho...

Most likely buying used, not sure if from dealer or private. I know with the economy and gas prices, I should be able to do well in buying, but I'm just wondering what the norm is. Thanks guys!

On a new TT, the usual amount is around 25-30%. Good luck!

There is no law that controls MSRP prices posted on TT's. My local Jayco dealer has MSRP prices that are over $2000 higher than the Jayco web site MSRP's. They also add a $1150 charge for PDI that most dealers do for free. Do some research on the Manufacturers web site before considering a set %.

It all depends on how much shopping you do and how far you are willing to drive to save some money.

We recently shopped for used and new, dealer and private party sellers, and researched many sites for about 2 months. We ended up finding a few decent deals on used units about 1-2 years old but in the end decided the risk of buying used wasn't worth it because we found an even better deal on a brand new unit.

Our new TT is a 2008 Puma 26RLSS which was the last of the 2008 model year inventory brand new with full warranty. MSRP was about $23,000 and we drove it off the dealer lot for $14,300 plus another $350 for an accessory kit, custom hitch installation, and temporary plate. We have to pay tax when we register it in our home state but this is true of any purchase. So we got close to 40% off MSRP which was a big discount but we worked really hard and drove 16 hours round trip to find it.

In general we found that used units were priced too high because people paid too much for them and had high loan balances so they couldn't afford to sell for less, and in many cases the used units were selling for the same or even more than a brand new model! The best used savings we could negotiate was about $1-2K lower than buying new, and this would be an older used unit without a warranty, so we spent the little extra to buy new and are so happy that we did.

Lots of good information in here! I have been reading for a while and thought it was a good time to register and jump in. I am looking at a new 2008 Jayco 28BHS which has a MSRP of around $18k. Should I start my negotiating at 35% off of that? I think since it is a 2008 still on the lot I have some additional bargaining power that I might not have on a 2009 model. What say you? Thanks in advance for the assistance.
