I have heard pros and cons of covering a HTT for the winter. I was hoping to get some opinions from this site. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well we are north of you, and about 2000 feet higher, but we do not cover our HTTTH. It is now 5 years old, no troubles yet. We DO cover the tires for UV protection. No trouble with last TT either after 7 years, but it wasn't a hybid.

So my opinion is, why cover? We do not.

I'm going without this year. I have covered all my previous R.V's over the years, but now with my "newer" Trailer, I feel its fine out in the weather. And we have lots of rain here in the N.W., I was just up on the roof a few weeks ago and inspected everything and washed the roof and could not see any problems. Plus if I want to just head out for the weekend I just hook up and go. My experience with Adco complete covers were "OK" at best. They keep the trailer / RV clean and work as they should. So I think its just preference?

I store inside at a local fairgrounds. It's worth the extra money to me to protect my investment and the peace of mind I get knowing that it is out of the elements for the winter.

If I were planing on using it before spring, let's say to go South, then I would store outside and most likely cover it. Wind, UV, snow, and rain will take it's toll over time. I believe in the old saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

I figure they are made to be outside in the weather while camping, so it cannot hurt to be stored outside.

Admittedly, I would much rather have our 5er in a building, but until I get the pole barn up, it's going to sit outside in the weather uncovered.

HTT to be?

Rain is one thing, snow, then thaw, then freze is another. If you are in an area that temps flux enough to cause the freeze / thaw cycle often, I would cover.

Just search this Forum for `RV Cover' where there are more responses than you can read in an evening. All opinions.

Yup.
I cover to keep it clean and an added layer of water barrier can't hurt. 15K was/is a big outlay for us, a couple hundred for a cover seemed worth it. Can't say if I'll buy another when this one is shot though, it won't be new any more. Kind of like buying a new truck, I baby them till they get a bit dinged/scratched up, then I stop worrying.

I went to a dealer just 2 weeks ago to look at the covers they got. I asked the sales person about the cover and he returned one simple question to me "WHY" My answer was to keep dirt and moisture away.

He could have sold me that $500 cover at that point but told me to rather spend the money on something useful. He told me that the covers are NOT keeping the water of the unit. Dirt and water will still get in and he believes that moisture will take longer to dry up. He was also mentioning problems during a constant freeze/thaw cycle. He told me he saw TT with rubber roof damages when the cover freezes to the roof.

I thing he may had a point. He could have taken my $500. I thanked him for his opinion and purchased some DICOR only.
