This question is specifically for users of the Equal-i-zer hitch, not just generic equivalent weight distribution hitches, please.

I have the 1400 lb model. I use it satisfactorily on my Nash 26X and my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD duramax.

Occasionally when we're traveling long distance, not when we're set up in a CG for several days, we find it helpful NOT to detach the truck just for one evening. If we can level the rig from front to back and keep the truck attached, it simplifies the entire setup/unsetup process a bit.

My question is this: when you do that, should you at least remove the heavy J hooks that hold the bars on the L brackets, so that that much tension is removed from the hitch even if you have to raise the truck and trailer a bit to level the rig from front to back? Or is it ok to leave the whole thing rigidly hitched together no matter how high the back of the truck gets elevated?

We leave everything connected. We almost never unhook. No troubles yet in over 50,000 miles on our Equal-i-zer hitch. We do love our electric tongue jack.

BUT, I wouldn't say no matter how high. We take some weight off TV suspension, but have never lifted even close to high enough that bars could be moved.

We do and will continue to do the same. We only have one 2K trip so far on the Equal-i-zer, but leave tomorrow for another 2K trip.

If we are just stopping for the night we don't detach either. No problems for us.

My first though was pull the J-hooks. After all, it's only two pins.
But then again the hitch must be designed for negative forces, otherwise it would break the first time you crested over a ramp leaving a parking lot.

Probably doesn't matter. But it'll be easier to crank up with the J hooks off.

If we were able to level the trailer properly without raising the truck more than an inch or so we stayed hooked up. Any more than that and I felt it best to unhook.
