Who doesn't like fish? Except those allergic maybe.
Made me some canned salmon patties tonight,, simple stuff, seasoned bread crumbs, egg, dill, chopped onion, etc and fried them up in a shallow skillet with peanut oil and mac and cheese on the side. nothing unusual . ( instead of or added to the bread crumbs,, add in some crushed seasoned crackers.
But in doing that I remembered a thing Ann and I did some years ago. I had gone fishing and brought home a bunch of crappie... cleaned them and fried them up and enjoyed them one night..
Next day we got a lot left over fried fish.. So we took a fork and pulled the rest of the fish off the bones and using basically the same mix as for salmon patties,, made them up and fried them.. GOOD!! better than canned salmon.. Since then we tired other fresh fish,, bass don't see to work to good, but catfish did and if you ever get to the salt water,, Ling/cobia and red fish both work well. Drum, not so hot,, a good Spanish mackerel will work and KING mackerel better if you ball out the meat so you don't have to fool with the bones.. I love shark but never tried it with that.
Of course no one in his right mind would ever ruin a flounder that way.. but other wise, make your own fish patties.. and Mac and cheese packets go well with it.

Only fish I eat is shell fish. Had so much smoked fish in the 32 months that I was in Vietman that I can't even stand to smell it cooking anymore.

i used to make fish patties out of Blue Fish. boiled the fish, separated out the dark, and used the white part. Added instant mashed potatoes to the mixture(did not add bread crumbs) they always turned out great. Just flour and fry them up..Dona

We used to catch carp on the flat lands when the river was up. Dad would gig them, brother and I would just wrestle them. Mom would can them and then make patties out of them. Really good. But, that was many years ago.
I like to make them out of tuna now.

I tend to make my patties out of fish I consider too small to eat regular. IMO, 8" fish or smaller is tough to get meat without bone so I cook them and pull meat off the bones with my hands.

We worked in Iran a couple years in the early 70's and imported canned salmon was about 5 times higher than USA. We made "salmon" patties out of canned sturgeon which the Iranians had all over the place. It was just as good as salmon, maybe better.

Isn't Sturgeon where Caviar comes from? makes sense to me it would be good. Personally I like caviar,, but understand that some people don't.

We like salmon soup! I use a can of red salmon...remove skin and bones...dump into a pan with the liquid. Mash up with a fork, add a little water and cook about three or four minutes. Add about a quart of milk, hunk of butter, salt and pepper. Heat and eat. It sure warms the old bones!
When our daughter was 16 she broke her jaw and was wired shut for several weeks. I had to send her a lunch she could eat. One day I sent salmon soup. She said as soon as she opened her thermos the table cleared so I didn't make that mistake again.
And, no, I didn't break it for her!

Okay everybody. DH hates fish unless it comes in a box, breaded then deep fried. I, however, am more adventurous and have on occasional had salmon patties made by others. I would LOVE to try your favorite recipe for them. All this talk has made me hungry, so why not share your salmon/fish patty recipes. I would love to try one.
