I posted this on the snowbird forum and thought perhaps this would be a better forum to get a "fairer" response. This is our first winter as retirees and have decided to stay home this winter . Our decision is not based on the economy ! It was a mutual decision between the DW and I . Our decision was based on the fact that we wanted to enjoy ( yes even ) a Mn. winter at home without the hassels of the drive to work . We both commuted a great distance. Also the fact just to stay home this first winter and enjoy our house on a lake and in the country . So how about you ? Any other new retirees out there about to enjoy their first winter at home?

We've been retired about 5 years now, and always spend the winters at home. In fact we love the snow. Course not having to drive in it when it is bad is a real plus.
So, not our first winter, but still. Snow in the mountains is great.

Nothing wrong with being retired and still spending the Winters at home.
Second year being retired for us. The snow here in the Winter time is rather enjoyable. Expecially during hunting season and not having to drive to work in it anymore.
Besides, we don't like crowded parks anytime of the year. And I think the snowbird parks in the Winter would be really full.

Since we retired (me in 1990 and wife in 1994) we never stay home in the winter. Why would I want to shovel snow, wade through it, drive through it, have the driveway plowed, wear winter coats, etc, if we don't have to?

DW and I both retired 4 years ago and couldn't WAIT to hit the road. Nothing wrong with enjoying life ANYWHERE you can but for us, it was traveling and hasn't changed since. I figure we'll have only so many good years left to enjoy touring the country and don't want to waste any of them. Nothing wrong with either life style and I Always say "to each his own". Good luck / Skip

I'm with Skip on this one, although I believe if you are retired you can do pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want. As for us, there are just too many places to see and things to do and retirement years with good health are relatively limited. DW and I will travel until we can't physically do it anymore then we will enjoy winters, summers, spring and fall at home. That said, congratulations to you and your wife on being retired and just enjoy your retirement no matter where you are.
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

I retired last May, and DW has been out of the work force for quite a few years due to a disability, but we have no plans to "hit the road" for extended periods of time, summer or winter. We enjoy our friends and family, and our camping trips are something we look forward to. If we fulltimed, what would we have to look forward to?
