I have a question for anyone that is towing a 07 or newer CRV . The owners manual states that a fuse needs to be removed when towing the crv to prevent the battery from being drained by the clock and other electonics . In theory the removal sounds easy but in practice due to the location of the fuse panel it's a pit butt. I am trying to make a set up uoing an inline fuse holder and a toggle switch to make the job a simple matter of throwing the switch to tow or not mode. I have most of the required items but am finding it difficult to find a bridge to replace the original ,have thought of using a defective fuse and soldering the wires to each side of the pins but due to the gauge of wire on the inline holder it will not be feasable. any suggestions will be appreciated. Also I note when the fuse is removed it also cuts the power to the accesory plug therefore my brake buddy will not run. I am beginning to think I will sell the BB as there is not near the weight that I had when towing the Honda Van. Thanks for any advice , We plan on leaving Fla for Home the end of the month so I want to get this set up prior to our departure.

Why don't you run a "Charge Wire" from the MH back to the CRV. That way the MH alternator will keep the CRV battery charged and you can then use the BB. I have the U. S. Gear Unified brake system on my CRV and it comes with a wiring diagram that shows how to run a "Charge wire. It is simply a wire from the positive terminal of the MH battery, about 8 inches long, hooked to a 20 amp Circuit breaker, then a wire from that circuit breaker back to the trailer hitch and then run it through your umbilica cord along with your light wires,and then under the hood to another 20 amp Circuit breaker near the CRV battery, then a short wire from the circuit breaker to the positive terminal of the CRV battery. Of course this also assumes that you already have a ground wire that you use for your lights, brake lights, and turn lights already in place. That way you do not have to pull any fuses, I just turn the radio off and the heater/AC fan off t ofurther limit the draw from thr battery. I have this charge wire and have never had a dead battery in the 6 years I have been towing. I will try and give you a link that shows the wire diagram with the circuit breakers in place in just a minute.

Click here Charge wire and just look at the diagram for the number 5. You will notice the two circuit breakers, one near the CRV battery, then a red 12 ga wire through the umbilica cord and the circuit breaker near the MH battery. Disregard all the other wires in the diagram, they are just for the unified brake control and do not pertain to anything that you need.

How long are you towing it before driving it again? I go on business trips where my car is parked for one or two weeks. It always starts. I don't see why a toad wouldn't.

The reason is that with the ignition switch in the accesory position, which it needs to be to unlock the steering wheel, all of the accesories are still drawing from the battery and the brake buddy uses 12 V also, thus on a 8 hour day, they can run the battery down.

We have an 08 and never pull the fuse and have never had a problem. I'll reread the manual tomorrow but I don't think mine says to pull the fuse. I thought only the CRV's with NAV required fuse pulling.

Add a charge wire from the MH and never worry about it.

We tow an 07 CRV w/NAV - about 15,000 miles so far. Do not pull the fuse. When we are traveling and stop for lunch, etc. I typically start the car and let it run for a bit, both to charge battery and also heat and circulate fluids. No problems so far.

We have the charge wire on our 2003. The problem is greater than just the clock and radio accessories. If you are driving with your headlights on, that zaps your battery very quickly. Stopping every 200 miles helps but is not enough on a long day of battery drain.
