If you choose to put a bike rack on the back, I recommend that you make a test drive and have someone observe how much it shakes. Shaking can contribute to premature failure at a join/weld.

Also consider straps. If the bike rack were to fail, I would prefer to be dragging the bikes on the ground behind me than to have them becomes loose and block the freeway lanes.

For my son with his Subaru, he can see what is going on in his rear view mirror. When towing a toad behind an MH, it is hard to see that bike rack behind the toad.

Couple of points in my situation.

1. I won't put bikes on the ladder. Just don't think the stress is worth the risk since it bolts into the roof and could cause leak problems.
2. My Thule 4 bike rack is a good one and cost some coin. I want to use if possible. It has a 2" receiver.
3. Not sure I want to add a 2" receiver to the back of the CRV. It is overkill, expensive and decreases ground clearance on that vehicle.
4. 4 bikes on back of CRV blocks the taillights since it is such a small car.

So I got three ways to go. Double receiver, hitch on front of RV or bumper mount receiver.

I don't think they make a 2" rcvr, 1 1/4. I tow a small utility trailer for mulch, the occcasional purchase etc. I also use a luggage platform for a cooler sometimes which has a 2" tube. It doesn't really decrease ground clearance and was only about $120 dollars but if you don't need to tow I take your point
.

The tailights are really high on the CRV. My bikes don't block the tailights.

That double receiver in the link looks interesting. About the same prices as a hitch for the CRV, though.

We had a Ranger pickup with shell and I had a rear receiver bike rack on it. Bikes/rack were in the way whenever I wanted into the back of the truck. Our 05 CRV had the spare tire mounted on the back and I decided on the Yakima roof rack system. Attaches directly to Honda OEM mount points under roof trim. I only carry two bikes but sure it would work for at least 3. Now use the same system on 09 CRV (but there is no spare on the back).

Curt makes a Class III hitch for the 2008+ CRV that you can put a receiver mounted bike rack on. I have one for my 2000 CRV. I have a Thule rack that I can switch between the MH and the toad.

See pics here.

Edit: I've also added a picture of the Thule roof rack system for the Honda CRV. It's another very nice product.

Just purchased a dual receiver from harbor freight onsale for 19.99. Might be a simple solution and for 20 bucks I will give it a try.
Click here to see the Dual Receiver

I'll post my findings back once I get my hands on it and try it out.

I use this rack also while towing a car. I carry two bikes on it and two bikes on a hitch mounted rack on the back of the toad. Works well for us.

Just remember that 4 bikes is a lot of weight to be supporting. And some of the racks out there will not handle that weight when bouncing over the tar joint strips on the highway. Here is a interesting thread to read before you make up your mind on anything :http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseac........d/tid/21023358/srt/pa/pging/1/page/1.cfm. Make sure you buy something that will handle what you want to do!!
