I'm currently looking for a used CRV to tow. I was looking at one with quite a few miles and that concerned me, as I will be driving the car a lot more than towing it. The dealer told me that the miles on the odometer indicate mostly towed miles. When I told him our former Blazer toad showed NO miles when being towed, he said the CRV does.

I know a lot of you tow these. Do the towed miles show up, or not? And, if so, I should think that would be a real negative when you go to sell one.

Hmmm....
Dealer. Lips moving.
Must be lieing!

On my 06 CRV, with electronic odometer, no miles show when towing.
I don't know if CRV has ever had a mechanical odometer.

Thanks, guys. As I expected. Since his statements were made per e-mail, it was difficult to tell if his lips were moving!

I told him if towed miles DID show on the odometer, it must have been towed improperly, probably resulting in transmission damage.

I am not sure about the transmission damage (I would doubt it) but mileage will show if you tow and leave the key in the wrong position (on?) and not started. Automatic gas mileage indicator does show great gas mileage, though. Don't ask me how I know this.

We have a 2006 CRV, have towed it a lot. no, tow miles do not show. I am wondering though, If the miles towed would affect the differential? I had it in for a noise in the rear end and they said the differential fluid was going bad and changed it. I do not have the noise now. Dang brake roaters were bad also. they milled them and that plus the diff fluid change was... $426.00. That's the last time I will take it to a dealer. This fellow who checked me in at the Honda dealership had a large hump around his shoulders. I asked him about the hump and he said he was a hump back. I said OH!!! I thought for a minute, because everything else is so high around here, it might be your donkey.

The odometer does not register when you tow a CRV. But you need to keep track of the miles towed so you can do the Transmission and Differential fluid changes on schedule. For instance if you drive the CRV 20,000 miles and you Tow it 10,000 miles, that is 30,000 miles on the transmission and differential fluid. If the maintenance schedule calls for a fluid change at 30,000 miles, then you should do it even though the Odometer only shows 20,000 miles. I am not saying that is what the schedule calls for, (don't have my owners manual handy at this time), just using those figures as an example. And the differential calls for "Honda Dual Pump Fluid", and as posted in a post above, the differential can make some noise when the "Fluid" does not get changes on schedule. So with a high mileage used CRV and if you think it has been towed, there could be a whole lot more miles on that transmission and differential then is showing on the Odometer and how do you know if the fluids were changed on schedule taking into account adding the actual driven miles to the actual towed miles. It's up to you.

Thanks for the information. I've already crossed that particular vehicle off my list. I'll certainly keep all this in mind if/when I find a CRV. In the meantime, I'll probably tow my Blazer.

On a 2008 CRV, if you tow it, Honda says change trans/diff. fluid every 2 years; no mileage given. Just change fluid every 2 years.
