Hi, I really want to buy a jayco23b thats for sale but I'm new to the RV world and don't know if my Chevrolet s10 blazer can pull it? Does anyone know the trailer weight of a 2000 jayco23b? My Max trailer weight according to my S10 manual is 5600 lbs. What do you'll think? The trailer comes with a weight distribution hitch (brand I'm don't know). Any advice or direction to helpful forums is greatly appreciated.

Hi Parcgreen.
And welcome to the group!
I have basically the same camper - a 2001 23B. I tow it with a GMC Sierra 1500, and I can really tell it's back there. If memory serves, the unloaded weight is 3400, and GVWR is right at 5000. Based on your numbers (5600) you are in the correct range, but I would advise against it. I think many others around here would agree. Short term, be sure that your S10 has a towing package, and aux tranny cooler, if you decide to proceed with this setup.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes. Oh...and where in NC are you located. If in the western or northwestern mountains, that's another consideration.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I live in the outerbanks, frisco to be exact. My blazer has 150,000 miles and a rebuilt trans. within the last year. You think it would ruin my car prematurely being its so old already? I really love the design of the 23b plus the seller only wants 4000 for it!!! This is all new to me, so i want to be safe and smart about my purchase. What weight/size do you reccomend i go with? Thanks again for your advice.

A lot of folks say that 80% of your towing capacity is a good rule of thumb. So 80% of your 5600 is 4480#. Depending on how much you load, and how much gear, and how many folks you carry in the Blazer, you are either right there, or slightly over. Do you have a tow package and transmission cooler, and a good hitch package? If you stay out east, and out of the mountains, you might be OK until you get a stronger TV.
If the Jayco is in great shape, $4000 is a good price, I think. Take a good look at the ceiling on both front and rear, looking for signs of water intrusion. Look also for discoloration of the floor covering, which could also mean water intrusion. If you look around the forums here, you will find a wealth of info on what to look for in a used HTT.
We love our Jayco, great floor plan!
Good Luck!

That S-10 blazer is too small to safely tow the 23-B.By the time you add the weight of your gear passengers propane tanks ect you will most likely be over.Plus with a V6 its going to struggle. If you are getting serious about camping and have your heart set on the 23-B consider a large suv or pickup.

you should have a V-8 to safely tow that trailer. the tongue weight is light but that trailer will over-tax your S-10, especially in the hills/mountains.
if you did short trips on relatively flat land, you could get by.
that's if the S-10 has the 4.3 v-6 engine.

Your S10 will be fine with the Jayco 23B. The trailer will probably top out at 4500 pounds and you have 5600 pounds max towing capacity.
You'll struggle into Cherokee, but you have at least 1000 pounds more capacity than trainer weight. Keep an eye on the temperatures and just buy a more capable truck next time.
I'd not pay more than $3100 for a 2000 Jayco 23B though. That's low NADA retail.

That trailer is way too big for a S-10. It is not only the weight, but the dynamic forces the trailer exerts upon the truck. In this case, those forces would actually control the truck, and you would come to know first hand what "the tail wagging the dog" effect is all about.

I've read about the "tail wagging the dog", so what is a safe weight/size that I could pull with an s10? I'm leaning towards a pop-up, but would really prefer something thats small enough to tow with my vehicle that doesn' have to be popped up?
