A strange thought crossed my mind today;

has/does anyone rent their own private TT to other individuals?

Does it require a license? Does one need to be a dealer, etc?

Obviously the potential for major problems is there-strangers trashiung your camper, damaging it, would be very hard to resolve problems.

But now and then I see the rig sitting there and think it would be nice to recoup a little dough.

I believe there are nationwide programs re/renting out MH's but I assume TT's just don't rise to that level.

Income while the unit sits in driveway vs. little kids running in and out slamming the door 25 times each 5 minutes. Having the hot water heater turned on before hooking up to park water supply. All kinds of things dropped down into the black tank. Backing into a camp site without a spotter. Hooking up to campground sewer system, but forgetting to pull open the tank valves and causing a flood after the 5 or 6th long shower.

Etc, Etc, Etc.

Me I will not even loan the trailer to family members no matter how much they plead and promise not to hurt the unit.

In addition to the problems you point out (which would be totally unacceptable to me!!), you would have an insurance problem. Plus any rental fees would be income subject to taxes. Renters would be entirely unlikely to have the proper hitch/towing equipment/proper size truck, etc. (That is why MHs can easily be rented and towed vehicles cannot. Has nothing to do with "levels")

I'd sell mine before I rented it or loaned it to anyone including family.

I would suggest getting that thought out of your head.

We would like to remain on good terms with the family.

Loaning or renting the RV would make that really hard.

Plus people trying to tow it without having proper equipment or adequate tow vehicle, getting in accidents...

Just too many possible bad scenarios. If you really, really want to do this, ask your insurance company first. Chances are they'll say no, or will raise your rates accordingly.

I have heard of people in the Oshkosh Wisconsin area setting up their
campers on the EAA campground and renting them out to pilots who fly in from all over the world.

C.B. I am an Oshkosh native.

Yeah this thought belongs back in my skull. Just thought it would be interesting to get some opinions.

Around here some people rent them to fireworks vendors around this time.
